@Simon - seems like we see it much the same but maybe come to different conclusions. It's not my dime or my time so if they can do it and help someone, that's awesome in my book. I will enjoy it myself, so it will help me on some level. Heck, I love watching people speak out and take the Borg to task, it just feels good as people that were silenced to see others speaking out. It doesn't sound like it may be your thing and that's cool too. No show appeals to every audience.

@Simon - Do you think that those that have watched and really made Leah's show popular to date are ex-Scientoligists then?
I'm sure that a lot of people that watch these shows are ex something, but I know quite a few people that watch simply because it's fascinating to learn about new things, and many people knew very little about Scientology that now know a lot and can warn others. I trust that the same will be true with the JWs. That stuff is viral too in that one educated person can educate another that needs it.
(sorry, I'd quote the last part of your reply but it's annoying on my phone)

As to the inoculation effect I can only say that on my podcast, which has far less reach than Leah's show, I've had people reach out in emails telling me how much they appreciated knowing more about what JWs are really like. This show will just be another outlet, another voice, another time, and will no doubt help inoculate at least some of the public. If this jackass sitting in his basement on a mic can do so, surely she can at a greater level.
People still advertise that they do windows or roofing or whatever. Why bother, since we all know how to find such companies? Because the right message at the right time brings in some customers, not all, but more than you had to start.
People will still become JWs. The goal can't be to prevent everyone everywhere from doing so. But it will help some people, and if that isn't good enough then I might as well shut down my podcast, this site should close down, etc. But all of these things get in front of different people and help someone out there.
If nothing else, I'd you believe that no measurable good comes from it, it doesn't seem to be doing harm unless you feel there will be a backfire effect and people will start flooding Kingdom Halls.

Having watched the Scientology series there are so many similarities between the two. If someone wants to pick apart the program they will regardless of who is on it. Sadly it will be many with a disdain for Lloyd Evans that are actually ex-JWs that will be the first to take shots simply because he's on it to the exclusion of everyone else that worked on this.
This program will help inoculate the general public and will help those on the edge in the cult to jump off. It will encourage many that have never had a voice to speak up. On the other side some will bury their head in the sand, others will seek to discredit. Few things are all good or all bad.

Is my future mother in law Pimo?
by Addison0998 inso my fiancé found out that his mom and sister, both baptized, went to a halloween party last night, dressed up and everything, with his step dad, who’s not a jw.
his mom hardly goes to the meetings or out in service, she’s quite inactive, his sister is a bit more active and serious about it.
i thought it was pretty bold even for someone who’s not a die hard witness.

How would we know what she believes? It could very well be that she just succumbed to peer pressure. It could be that she's PIMO though if she's inactive I don't know how PI she is. Then again, you can't tell how mentally in she may be either. Lots of things happen that would surprise people and people are still hard core believers. There are too many variables.
So you're still marrying this guy? You said she's your future mother in law but I thought you started threads about the guy and I thought you intimated that you were going to maybe go another way.
It sounds like you're still really hanging around all of this stuff. Watch out, you may not be as out as you think. Sounds like you're maybe still going down a very JW path and about to get married into it even more unless I missed some changes with this guy you're engaged to. You see, this stuff is insidious, and you don't know where anyone really stands when they haven't taken one yet. It's a tricky situation. It's easy to find yourself in deep by continuing to go down these paths.

Do you know MORE about the bible NOW?
by stuckinarut2 inhow many of us would confidently say that we know more about the bible now that we have ceased being jws?.
i know that i was proud to say that i was a "serious bible student" when a jw.
we boasted about how much we learned each week, and how we shared bible truths with the community.. but it's only after leaving, and really delving into a broad range of research, that i realise how little i actually knew!.

Oh yeah, I know way more now. I was so ignorant and pretty much just knew scriptures that were picked to support the JW narrative. I did always wonder why we bounced around the Bible so much.
I remember reading things like what happened between Lot and his daughters and wondering why that never seemed to come up, lol. That one caught me by surprise.

GcMAF - cure or major treatment for autoimmune disease, cancer, autism, etc, and being suppressed or hype?
by Bad_Wolf insince most people in this group have been taught how to research and fact check with our jw history and getting out, this is a topic that can be constructive to check out.
i stumbled upon this and spent some time researching it, and it's quite interesting.
it's part of your immune system, gcmaf.

My Dad's Funeral
by Disassociated Lady 2 ini had not seen my dad for 15 years because i had left the borg.
(i had been out 26 years but there was a few years when the jws permitted contact with outsiders and then changed their minds again).
they made contact with me again just before he was diagnosed with cancer.

They lack basic humanity and are tone deaf narcissists that care about nobody else. I don't think I will participate in any way when the inevitable happens. I'm dead to them, they're dead to me. Sorry you had to put up with that bs. That comment about your dad walking that sister down the aisle was petty and just evil on a level. They don't deserve your attendance or participation.

How Effective Are Anti-JW Internet Sites?
by minimus ini think that once you get on the internet and you see evidence that shows jehovah’s witnesses do not have the real truth, it can jolt you.
but i don’t think simply going on an internet site typically changes a person’s direction—even if the information is very damning toward the witnesses.
i think it takes time to eventually get out.

This site showed me that other people saw the same things that I was seeing in the cult. I was still a believer in the doctrine but I knew something was wrong. Once I saw the stories of others and that I wasn't alone I started breaking down the doctrine, and eventually the Bible itself, using this site (among others that I branched out to).

Rick Fearon - Six Screens of the Watchtower
by dubstepped inso a friend today asked me what his deal is and i honestly don't know.
i saw someone post about his accusations that the doj is investigating watchtower and people seemed down on the guy, as well has johnny the bethelite or whatever his name is that claims to leak stuff.
i don't know rick fearon, don't watch his show, but his site just seems a little crazy, and he seems to get into occult conspiracies and the jws, which never lends credibility.. so for those of you who have been around a while, what's the deal?

I had done a little searching on this site before asking the question. I see the sensationalism and it felt to me like he was pushing some crazy out there. That seems to be the consensus. I wondered if there were specific and noteworthy things that might stand out. Everyone clearly has a feeling about the guy, and maybe I need to watch to fully get it, but I thought maybe there were specific moments that kind of highlighted what everyone sees.
I too remember coming across his site when first leaving the dubs but I couldn't stand the website design and it wreaked of crazy to me then so I went around until I landed here.
Thanks for all of the responses. :)
