Hey man, I don't think anyone is offended, and although naive (which we all were), you're so far ahead of where most of us were at 17. You have a good outlook and you're not wrong about the need to work on ourselves and to be positive and find happiness. Keep it up and you'll have a great life!

We are giving too much power to the watchtower
by sinboi ini am just 17. many of you here are much older than me.. i do feel that offering advice here is like teaching my father how to fuck.
but seriously, i do see the problem here.
we are focusing more on the problem than the solution.. i have been reading mind power books for quite some time.

Lol Slow Burn, no worries on being creepy. I think many of us had similar experiences and left with similar views. Creep on man (or lady), feel free to reach out anytime. :)

Why do you think the people here are leading bad lives? Most of us are very happy. You can be happy and still wish to get your family out of the cult, or wish to tear it down. The cult does have power. It ripped away years from us and experiences that impacts people even after they leave. It controls our families. Those are not happy things. What we can do is rise above, not let those things dominate our lives, but you have to acknowledge both sides. It doesn't mean that we aren't happy. You have to give the past its due though. This is where we do. This is where we process it and show it for what it is. We find happiness even through that.

non jehovah witness dinner
by whatisthis12 inso almost two weeks ago, my boyfriend(who was disfellowshiped) went to the memorial.
he hasn’t spoken to his parents, friends, or siblings for over a year because of it.
the only person he keeps in contact with is his grandma, which is who he went along with.

I'm with you sir82. If by this point she doesn't get it then there's nothing we can do. She doesn't seem to participate much in her threads. Kind of a hit and run poster.
We aren't translators for toxicity. If she keeps playing this game she gets what she gets and we can't help.
How are we supposed to know their individual motives?

Incite Better Handling of Complaints
by The Fall Guy inever feel as if companies or their telephone complaint handlers couldn't care less about your problem?
i don't know if it's just me, but in recent times i seem to have had more than my fair share of companies/tradesmen who acted with contempt.. admittedly, many of them are given a really hard time by extremely irate customers, but each customer should be treated as an individual.. i have found that i receive a more focussed & attentive response when i inform the person on the other end of the line that i am recording the call for my personal reference & security.
from that point on, i generally receive their full attention and achieve a satisfactory outcome for my complaint.

I can't speak to what you're doing in recording them, though it sounds interesting and I can definitely see why it would work. You're putting them on the spot, you're different so you have their attention, etc.
As to customer service I agree with you that many just don't care. The ones that do really stand out. I ordered food at a restaurant recently and the lady kept interrupting me and getting things wrong. In the end she got yet another thing wrong and when I explained that I wanted something else she got defensive and nasty. At first I tried to take the blame but when she got nasty I just up and left. In that case I had options. Often when dealing with customer service on the phone you can't just leave. So I like this idea.

Yes Mark, start a "New Topic" and introduce yourself rather than replying this way to other people's discussions. You'll get more interest that way.

Thanks NBD!
Lol, I still remember pressure washing a parking lot with another brother the night of Y2K. I also remember driving a car, graduating high school, getting married, turning 40, all things I would never do in this system.

and their life turned into a dumpster fire.

If the wording is relevant, then you'll find that the OP said the word "I" to begin his post, never intimating that he had statistics worldwide, and saying that this was what he has seen. So yeah, it may seem like "so many" to him. You see, "so many" leaves it vague and shows that it is indeed to the OP's perception. For some, one or two might be "so many" because they can't believe that even one person would come out to freedom just to destroy life and go back. Somehow everyone else managed to grasp the premise and to discuss it rather than picking at words used like we did as JWs.
My life is actually great Morpheus. Thanks for asking.

Thanks LTSB! It seems an appropriate name for someone that is a fan of the podcast. I've got a treat in store for next month that I announce at the end. It will be a non-ex-JW story, but ohhhhhh man, it is a story that needs to be told and heard. It is amazing how many similarities there are between JWs and groups that even a JW would call a cult.
