i have always wondered why there are more females than males in all of the congregations that i have visited?
some of these females are in their 70's so maybe their husbands have died and women just live longer.
or could the reason be that years ago men were the breadwinners and women stayed home to raise the children thus they were home during the week when the jdubs came a knocking?
Women seem to be more community oriented and religions are great places for that. There also seems to be some correlation (anectdotally) between childbirth and looking for a religion if you don't have one. I've seen and heard story after story of ladies having kids and suddenly wanting to join a church. A lady we clean for is a data analyst and professor in the field of psychology and first pointed that out to me. I've noticed it ever since, and not just in JWs. Stereotypically women tend to be more emotional and I think religion caters to that more too through feel good stories, rituals, etc. Clearly that doesn't reflect all women, but adding those things up may account for a lot of the difference. These things are usually a by-product of many variables.
today is my birthday :) in happy to be able to say that guilt free!
.
Happy birthday man. Hope it was a good day.
a friend and client and former politician just called me.
he knows people in the media and had offered a few months back to see if anyone would be interested in doing a story on what i'm doing through my podcasts this jw life" and "shunned".
of course i was excited but things take time and you never know if they'll pan out.
@Betheliesalot - Glad you enjoy them. Soon you'll be able to drive to the smooth sultry sounds of my voice on all episodes as I'm going to do them all more conversationally like I did with David. People seem to like it.
Whew, you drive like me. I'm all for a long drive when we have somewhere fun to go.

Thanks forum friends! I was just excited at the news and had to tell someone. I was cleaning a house when I got the call. The reporter has a few irons in the fire currently but I was told that he will reach out to me within the next week or so, hopefully.
i've just released the final podcast from david's story which is a bonus episode formed from a discussion that we had in the pre-interview.
i think that it contained some valuable information and insights through our discussion of not just the response (or lack thereof) to sexual abuse within the cult of jehovah's witnesses, but also about other related matters.. i hope that david's openness about his life has made an impact on others, and invite any that listen to leave him a word of encouragement at http://shunnedpodcast.com/episodes/ under either episode 6, 7, or 8, all relating to his story.
i was fortunate enough to be able to take part in the telling of his story and it has impacted me for sure.. you can find the "shunned" podcast on itunes (apple podcasts), google play, wherever you choose to get podcasts, or streaming right from my site on the page linked above.
Glad you like it Wakanda! I'll have a new episode out sometime the first week of April. I'm excited because I've got some great interviews coming up, including this forum's own pale.emperor and a lady that escaped the FLDS cult (Warren Jeffs).
for a long time, i was convinced jehovah witnesses were just people preaching the word of god in a different way than other christians.
i was shown the real truth over the past few months.
i've been friends with this guy for over 5 years.
@neatbluedog - I have to admit that with a migraine today the walls of text that she wrote tended to run together so perhaps I mistook how strong his relationship with the JWs was.
And perhaps brainwashing was the wrong term, but no doubt a long term relationship starting so young has a sort of enmeshment (substitute that for brainwashing) that is extra hard to pull away from. Clearly this lady has her own spiritual walk but it's likely that if he's a strong personality or has a strong pull toward the cult then he's impacted her. That much is clear or she wouldn't be here.
What's absurd is to encourage a person to pursue a relationship at such a young age and with so little experience where the guy already broke up with her for the cult. Go find someone more healthy. You're young and chasing something you started at 14 that has at least one major red flag. Most people aren't with the person they were with at 14 long term. There are reasons for that. Not that it can't work, but you're chasing something that has proven to be bad instead of pursuing good. That's my opinion. Yours may differ. We're not in a cult and don't have to agree.

Run!!!!!!!! He's in a cult. He's not free from the indoctrination, he's not got free will, and he will fuck you over if you keep going down this path.
Forget how long you've known each other. If you met him today in a bar you'd run. Don't throw good time after bad. In fact, the fact that you've known each other since you were so young probably means he's been subtly influencing you to brainwash you too. JWs can't help it. Brainwashed people brainwash people.
Run, run, run. You're on a forum with people that know the ins and outs of this cult and we can't save our family members, so what chance do you have? Very little. He has to want to break away and you can't make someone want something that they don't want.
i am the grandmother of the runaway 18year old girl who is now living with her 22 year old idiot.
this person has totally brainwashed my granddaughter and is continuing to separate her from our family.
i feel so helpless that there is nothing we can do to make her see this - no money, no identity, and a servant to him and his family.
Have you read the other THREE threads started by your daughter? We've already been through all of this. In the end she's an adult and her life isn't yours to control. There is lots of good advice in those other threads.
With that said, I'm sorry for your loss, as it stands today.

I'm so excited even at the possibility that I could burst!
It would be so poetic. When I was a kid there was a story that hit big in the papers here about a scandal in a congregation in another area (if memory serves, I was a kid). I remember specifically being told at meetings not to read the paper or their apostate lies. I didn't, of course. Now I could actually be that apostate, lol.
Will it happen? Who knows. But things ARE happening. My last interviewee for "shunned", David, crashed his local KH and outed his abuser. I even have the audio on the podcast. When you put yourself out there good things can happen. If this newspaper story gets done and published it will only add to my joy in this. The goal was to give a voice to the voiceless, to tell the other side of the story, and to help people by doing so. I might get to add to that soon and just knowing that people are taking notice makes me so happy.
I'll avoid posting specifics unless it happens. I don't want to tip anything too much but if it happens everyone will know. I don't know the circulation now but it is a nice sized metro area. Last time I saw it was somewhere around a couple hundred thousand in circulation in a metro area of a million or so.
