i've been lurking here for some time and decided to take the plunge and jump in.

i was a witness for 16 years, baptized in 1981 when i was in my early 20's.

brought husband, mother and kids in.

I learnt lots and lots from people on here and I am sure you will.
It sounds like you and I where coming in and exiting the borg at about the same time - 1981-1999 and about the same age.
I look forward to hearing about your experiences if you feel able to post them.

Help, my son misses the hall...

he really does.. we had a long chat tonight and he was really sad.we were never integrated into jw society,so it's not the people;he justsaid ...'want to belong to god's family'?

!i went through a few more points as to why the wtbs wer'nt the 'right' religion and asked him if he felt god was happy with people who lie.he re-accepted that and then said'so,how do you know where to go?i tried to explain it by asking him if he thought god looked at congregations or individuals and we got to the conclusion that it's probably individuals.... my point is, he wants to go to his teachers church,and i don't.my husband has never been interested in religion in any form and as the months go by,i feel less and less inclined to be involved in any religion.he has a strong christian theme at his school, but done nicely, so i know his desperation is,nt all 'my fault' but i feel guilty at making him so desperate to find the place he feels comfortable in.he's only 8 and an obsessed sports fan who has a very loving ,full life-but he's unhappy at night and i'm so worried it's my fault.i feel so depressed tonight and responsible for messing up his head with it all.the point is.... do i take him to his teachers church even though i have no desire to?how long would i have to go, feeling a hypocrite?.

what will it do to him if i don't try to help him practically with how he's feeling?.

Kingdom Hall arson attack.

i learned tonight that the rugby, warwickshire kingdom hall has been attacked with some type of incendiary.. not sure how extensive the damage is but sufficient enough so that all meetings there are suspended.

no public talks for a while - watchtower studies to be held at the group centres.. there is a lot going on in rugby circuit at the moment!.

Amazing Survived Major Heart Attack

i just spoke on the phone to amazing (jim whitney) who is in intensive care in a chicago hospital.

on monday he had a major heart attack, had a stint put in an artery to unblock things and may have bypass surgery.

he's comfortable enough right now, but of course will have to make some big lifestyle changes.

Seeing reality,JWs are "oddball crackpots...

after reading you know's response to the dateline expose' i was reminded of my own brain washing years ago while being raised as a jw.

it seems so funny to me now but i too used to believe that we jws were completely normal and that anyone who said otherwise was misinformed.

when i finally removed myself from the watchtower society's influence reality slowly crept into my consciousness and the objective fact that jws are "oddball crackpots" became clear and indisputable.. as a jw i believed in a whole host of absolutely ridiculous and illogical idiocy.

Yes most people do view the dubs as 'oddball crackpots' and therein lies the danger.
They think they are just a harmless group, mainly consisting of old ladies and housewives with nothing else to do but knock on peoples door and leave their 'bible based'?? magazines.

It can take years of being inside this organization to actually see how dangerous and evil it is, and so a programme such as dateline has hopefully brought to the attention of the public the real truth about these oddball people.

'Nice but dim' would probably describe most of the r&f.The controlling powers behind them are evil, arrogant and totally manipulative of those who get caught up with them.

What the general public doesnt know is that once you have been in their clutches you can never escape unscathed.

All of us on this board who have left or are trying to leave bear the emotional scars that testify to this.

The two witnesses and Susannah

in the second century a mural was drawn from the susannah story on the walls of the roman catacombs - all the early texts included the story of susannah.

the reformationists/protestants took it out of their bible - i assume the anti-catholic wtbts have also.

catholics have kept the story in the bible, it's a part of daniel.. it's a story of the 'two witnesses' - elders.

The society used to quote from that translation, I dont know if they still do.
Wonder why they missed this account?

I agree with what spero says though. I too had a 'church upbringing' in the C of E and Methodist prior to about 20 years in dubdom, and have never heard of the account.
They are all guilty of sinning by ommision.

Good post spero and welcome,
I think lots of us wonder how we ever believedin or stayed in the org for so long.
But at least having been there we have an understanding of the mindset that keeps people trapped.
