Over the ages, there have been lots of groups with different ideas on end-time prophecy and these groups eventually phase out of existence, even though they don't dissolve immediately when the prophecies fail (they get stronger at that point) but they don't stand the test of time. I assume the same will be true for JWs.
History repeats itself and in a few hundred years nobody on this planet will know what a JW was, but what is bad is there will be others to take their places.

Maybe it was a different talk, what I remembered was they tied anyone who believes the apostates with the way Eve was deceived, and I felt they were ridiculing me, in a way. I was hoping they would actually address a thing or two that was being said about them, but they didn't. I wanted to hear them break it down for me, but I guess they couldn't.

if there is a god, why can't he or she make it plain and obvious who he is, what he wants from us, what his purpose is?

Thanks for all of your responses. I guess not having many clear answers yet is bothering me a little. I had hoped to have more things figured out by now, but I'm finding it doesn't work that way, unless you want to be duped the same way again. I guess it takes a lifetime for some people to work out what their beliefs are and why. I'm not trusting anything, that's my problem.
When I was younger I felt there was something wrong with me because, although I was raised as a JW and believed it without questioning, I knew I had absolutely no interest in religion. That scripture about "happy is the man who is conscious of his spiritual need" made no sense before. It's funny that as soon as I began questioning the Witnesses I became very curious about religion. Or maybe it's just part of maturing. Whatever it is, being a "fact checker" has made me skeptical and cynical. JT asked if itsNOTallgoodnow. Well, I'd be lying if I said it is always good. I've been wondering about faith as a concept. If there is a god, why can't He or She make it plain and obvious who he is, what he wants from us, what his purpose is? Or depending on the country you are born in, there is a variety of religions not based on the bible to choose from that all have their own ideas about God. So we are to think god wants us to wander around in confusion and maybe just happen to stumble on something that makes sense? Why does it need to be that way? If I was God, I wouldn't have done it that way. I would have made it so obvious who I was and what I wanted from people.
This makes me wonder : Was the idea of faith started to explain the idea of religion? Without faith there is no religion, period. In other words, is all religion just BS?
What conclusions have you come to on this?

I'm not surprised to see this happening, there are other groups (some would call cults) ie maybe it's called Church of Christ? - some of these groups misrepresent themselves as something else. They use students to try to get other students involved. But the colleges are on to them and have notified the students of these groups and asked the students to beware.
I don't know that the JWs are going that far on campus. But hopefully these students will have their radars up. I also agree with the statement about them being more likely to research JWs on the internet. There are gullible people everywhere though... who knows.

for me a couple of weeks ago was in the service meeting, they stated that if the children didnt finish their homework because they were studying the bible or at a meeting that teachers should understand that their meetings and study are more important.

IMHO all religions are cults by some definitions but in varying degrees. JWs show cultlike characteristics, but many of their beliefs are just as valid as those of other widely accepted mainstream religions.
They may not have "one leader" but they are strictly lead by the people at the Watchtower society, whose rulings and teachings cannot be questioned or debated. In all fairness, you can't stick them in the same category as the moonies, or other groups where people are actually living in communes, etc.
As far as I can tell ... yes to cultlike. No to outright cult.
