That would be funny. A height/weight index chart right by the front door. Right next to the scale.

disfellowshipped for gluttony?
by onintwo inhello jwd board community.
just wondering.. has anyone ever heard of a person being disfellowshipped for the terrible sin of gluttony?
isn't it ranked right up there with drunkeness, adultery, murder, etc.?.

Nope, never seen a brother in a wheelchair with mic duty. Different issue, though.

Hello JWD board community. Just wondering.. Has anyone ever heard of a person being disfellowshipped for the terrible sin of gluttony? Isn't it ranked right up there with drunkeness, adultery, murder, etc.?
Has anyone heard of anyone even being reproved for this sin? Just wondering.

Does the averageJW really believe it is the truth?
by whatistruth ini ask this question because the average jw does not show true love though they are commanded to do so.
the average jw often confesses that the meetings are quite boring.
the average jw complains about almost everything within the org.

Hey, What is, hang in there! Your search for truth, meaning, etc. is going to be a rather convoluted journey. I now know that things I always considered "absolutes" aren't. Between two distant poles of Black and White, there exists a great deal of Grey. Scruples game, anyone?
Oh, and welcome to this Board.

Let's take this apart.
The average JW was "born" into the truth and consequently never made a choice, or chose the mantle he/she now bears. Of course this breeds resentment. They know they are trapped.
The average JW does not truly love his fellow man. The mind cannot hold two diverse opinions. When you are listening to a steady drumbeat 5 meetings a week about how "wicked" the world is, and all those in it, it just numbs you. You tend to view them as "lost", "unwashed", "deserving of death", etc.
The average JW would not stay in the "truth" if it were announced tomorrow that the promised New System is not coming in our life time. There would be a mass exodus. So much for believing it to be the truth of God. There only in it for the short haul, with the reward right around the corner.
The average JW only hopes against hope that somehow this "roll of the dice" will turn out to be correct. As such, their belief is shallow and quite unfounded.

Don't ya just love it when...
by onacruse in...somebody cuts you off in traffic, squeezing in right in front of your bumper, and you see this wonderful little "fishie" decal on the back of their car?.
sorta like jws, madly rushing home from an assembly, with watchtower and awake magazines plastered up in the rear view window (or, better yet, a license plate that says yhwh...lol), cutting in and out of traffic, as they hurry on to the next macdonald's to get their kids a super-sized meal and shut them up with french fries.
lol (been there, done that, eh?).

Well...since we're pet-peevin'.
How about the driver who circles the WalMart parking lot six times trying to find a spot near the door? Blocking the aisles for anyone else who may want to travel down it? My wife and I always grit our teeth.
The weather can be beautiful, but these nut cases will sit there in their overheating Ford Excursion's waiting for some shopper to finish loading their purchases.
We always give them a cheesy grin as we walk by after having parked a few stalls down. They're still sitting there on their fat asses waiting.
My God! Don't these people ever figure out that once they're in the store they'll probably walk thousands of feet? What's six or seven car stalls. Maybe eighty feet?

Remembering Halloween As A JW Kid . . .
by Corvin ini remember my mom and my aunt making us kids open the door to the trick-or-treators and instead of giving them candy, we had to put wt and awake!
magazines (back issues) in their bags.
how embarrassing.. anyone else have the same experience?.

When I was really young my dad took me and my brother and sister out trick or treating. It was the best time! But mom and dad came into the "truth? in the '50s and it ended quickly.
I ashamed to admit that when I married and had kids, we were the types to turn out the lights and pretend we weren't home.
Now I enjoy the holiday very much. Going to a party soon. I'm going as a surgeon and my wife is a naughty nurse!

Points to Ponder
by Kenneson insomeone e-mailed these to me and i thought i'd pass them on.. love is grand; divorce is a hundred grand.. i am in shape.
round is a shape.. time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.. conscience is what hurts when everything else feels good.. talk is cheap because supply exceeds demand.. even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.. an optimist thinks this is the best possible world.
a pessimest fears this is true.. politicians and diapers have one thing in common.

Attended a funeral today. Or a celebration of life. However you would have it. It was the most moving thing I can remember in recent days. Videos, music, open mike for those who wished to say a few words, etc.
Wow! Not a dry eye in the house at the conclusion, though. As I said, very moving presentation. None of this "canned crap" from the JW's memorials. I remember how choreographed and stilted every memorial I attended at the KH was. The requisite reading from the Bible, like all of us hadn't heard it a hundred times or more. Not near enough about the actual person who was deceased. JW's always used it as an occasion to PREACH about coming better days. Can you say boring? God, I think it is actually arrogant to use this persons death in that way! What are they thinking?
What a contrast where persons are actually allowed to express themselves, without the use of a pre-approved "outline". I can't tell you how liberating it was to see the genuine article. A real funeral. People permitted to express to the decedent's family and friends how much they enjoyed her. An hour taken up wholly with the person's accomplishments, their dreams, family, and yes, even their foibles and idiosyncrasies!
Wonderful!

What are the long term effects of having your life turn out to be a lie?
by sleepy inwhat do you believe are the long term effects of having your life turn out to be a lie?.
can a person really be brough up a jehovahs witness and live that life for 20,30,40 or more years and walk away unaffected?.
are the effects similair to say a person who doesn't know they have been adopted and finds out only as an adult their "parents" are not their real ones?.

How it affected me was this:
I have a re-newed and energized zeal to sample life to it's fullest! The gates of "NO's" have swung open for me and I'm already beyond them. My advice to you or anyone with these feelings is to explore life! Yes, this is probably it....., although no one knows for sure. Come to grips with your own mortality and EMBRACE it! Learn all you can about yourself. Bury yourself in many pursuits... both for your own sanity, and also in helping someone else....in any way that you can. Helping others is a very, very good thing.
Knowing that two of my three kids have been salvaged and should go on to lead productive lives is a great feeling also.
For what it's worth.
