What did we talk about?
by seattleniceguy ini enjoyed a thoughtful discussion with a friend last night that lasted into the wee hours of the morning.
we two xjws talked about things like direction and purpose in life, religion, and the like.
about three-quarters of the way through, it struck me that this conversation would have been impossible only a year ago, when we were both jws, because we were objectively discussing these matters without regard for what the official jw party line was.

If given the choice....
by NEWWORLDSLACKER inif you were given the choice to either be an expert in one specific area and not pursue anything else....or be able to do quite a few different things pretty well but excel in none what would you choose?
this is a question im trying to come to terms with at the moment.
i find joy in a great many activities..... i take care of my family of four meanwhile -im an artist( mostly painting and sculpting)-hot rod and custom bike mechanic/machinist- i write music-am a carpenter for hire- computer building(nerd)-at my job im a chemist and systems mechanic- im also a shade tree inventor-if it breaks i can fix it ...and all of my friends and family know that im there for them when they need me.

Organic molecules (building blocks for life) abundant in the universe
by seattleniceguy inturns out the ingredients for life might not be so hard to come by after all.
a nasa team has found that "a class of compounds that is critical to biochemistry is prevalent throughout the universe.
another quote: much of the chemistry of life, including dna, requires organic molecules that contain nitrogen," said team member louis allamandola, an astrochemist at ames.

is this religion decscriminating?
by reporter123 ini have some family in iowa that is having trouble with in thier religion.
the father was a good man who raised his children and was both father and mother to his kids while the wife yelled and screamed and hit all of them.she is also disabled so the father did his best to help her but still she would constintly hurt all three of them and well after years of this abuse it seems the father felt it would be safer for his children if he and his wife split up.
he eventually found a another girl and well one thing leads to another and he is disfellowshipped for not breaking up with this girl.

Headship arrangement as basic brainwashing?
by seattleniceguy ini had this thought occur to me the other day.
we all find it amazing that witnesses can point out the faults in other religions, but believe their own is wonderful, in spite of the raft of problems it has.
confronted with such, the witness will respond with, "oh, no one says our organization is perfect.

Too much freedom!!
by PopeOfEruke ini once read a letter i found in my mum's house.
it was from an elder to an another elder, and i am so stupid, i should have taken the letter to scan and post.. .
anyway in part, the letter discussed the then-recent event of someone having posted the elders manual on the internet.
