I agree that there are the two basic types of elders. Once I had dealings with a few type two elders I quit trusting all elders. A type two elder can appear to be a type one and then use what you tell him to betray you.

its my experience after actually being an elder for a number of years that there are in fact...two types of elder.. type 1....genuine, actually cares about the people in the congregation and wasn't actually bothered too much if he became an elder or not.. type 2....very legalistic, cares more about organizational laws rather than people and lacks compassion and empathy.
this type is more of a spiritual policeman.
he wanted desperately to be an elder and now that he is, he loves the sense of power and prestige.. this has been my experience and if there are more type 2 elders on a body, the results can be disastrous.. what has been your experience???

Probably has something to do with the concept of free expression of thought. They like it for themselves but not for those of us who are critical of the WTS.

hi- i would like to know if anyone has any good scriptures that i could hit someone with when they say that they have to do whatever the elders tell them- even if they feel the elders are wrong and in error- they say the scriptures tell us to be obedient to those taking the lead.
they say we are to follow the elders instructions and if they are in error- jehovah will make it right.
i feel we should never blindly follow anyone.
They don’t seem to have a problem in stretching a scripture if it suits their purpose, do they? If an Elder gives bad counsel that you follow who suffers, you or him? This kind of application of scripture is what makes the WTS so Orwellian.

i know the wtbts have bastardised the criteria for 'the time of the end' and 1914, but as far as i am aware, it will still come while those that were alive in 1914 (not necessarily of an understanding age lol) are still alive, yes?
now, if we give them all until they are 110 years old (quite generous of me don't you think), that means in 20 years time we should see the wtbts disappear (or at least be in rapid decline) as all of the anointed are pushing up daisies, and this wicked world is still alive and kicking.
suppose we could see an increase in field service at old folks homes!

Nope! This generation no longer refers to those who were alive in 1914. They can all die and probably will before the end comes. “New Light” resulted in “this Generation” referring to all those who live and die in the time of the end (which could span 200 or more years). This new light was necessary in order to keep the 1914 date as the starting date for the end times and open ending the length of the final days.

i used to love break time.
especially if it was afternoon service, and we stopped at taco bell.
i used to be damn good at eating tacos in the car without spilling anything.
Back in the olden days I actually liked Field Service. I was full of zeal and able to use the Bible like a two edged sword. I suppose I made more than a few householders and family members angry by slicing and dicing them with the WORD. Now that I know the truth about the truth my enthusiasm for FS is gone.

when you was a jw how many times did you recieve counsel or critisim from the elders.
i can't think of how many times when i gave talks ( 5 min) #4 that i would get counsel.
or going in service you should of said this or use this scripture.
I always told the brothers that I could take counsel from anyone that would take it from me. That did not seem to go over to well.

i'm asking your opinion today and probably venting my spleen a little as well, i'm afraid.. we all agree, i've noticed that shunning, for the jw reasons is wrong and even downright wicked.. however, my husband will no longer speak to or acknowledge his parents, after years of being a very good, infact, too good a son to them.. i posted a while ago about the ongoing problem with our jw families.
we wanted to take in my husbands very elderly grandfather but his parents would not allow it because we are faded jws.
we found a letter while reading through grandpa's cards in which, my mother-in-law had slandered us terribly and my family.
There is a limit to how much a person can take and it is obvious your husband has reached his. His parents continued ill treatment of him is their choice not his. What your husband is experiencing is righteous indignation. More power to him!

i thought that was a religious-based organization?his devotions were recognized in 1998, when he received the angel network award from oprah winfrey for his work with habitat for humanity.. .

habitat for humanity international is a nonprofit, ecumenical christian organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action.
The company I work for urges its? employees to do volunteer work. Last year I was a Team Captain for a HFH project. I?ve never made a secret of this and many (including elders) in my congregation are aware of what I did and intend to do again. Not one word of criticism had been spoken (at least to me). FairMind
is it true?
can you be disfellowshiped for reading crisis of conscience?
is that why some have read it in the library out of sight of other witnesses and elders themselves read it in secrecy?.
Of course you can be DF?d for reading COC. The only difference between being reproved either privately or publicly and DF?s is whether or not one is judged to have a repentant attitude. I have read many so called ?apostate? books and will continue to do so. I hope to avoid being DF?s by hiding my library and being very judicious with whom I share the learned information. Many people say ?they can?t do that? when discussing what the elders and/or the WTS can do, but keep in mind you have no rights at all.

distinctions without a difference:
issues regarding jw beliefs and teachings bugged me going into the religion, and bugged me until i left.
they are those oh so all-important claims they make that other religions are doing such bad things ... yet they do the same thing ... but, they manage to draw some kind of technical distinction that really makes no difference.
How about the importance of examining religious beliefs to make sure they are in harmony with the Bible? This only applies to beliefs held by other religions and not to WTS beliefs.
