Seems to me that what they do is make correct application of the scriptures...up to a point. Then they smoothly but incorrectly wed the application to fit their need. They are in facts masters of going beyond what the scriptures really mean and doing it in a way that does not allow for any interpretation but theirs.

Is the world really getting worse?
by Wordly Andre ini don't have to tell you how jw's use the line about how the world is just getting worse and it's a sign that we are in the end times.
what is your thought on the world?
is it really getting worse, or does every generation say that?

My perception is that things are worse and steadily moving toward unsolvable crisis. Examples of this are:
1. World wide terrorist organizations and their inevitable access to nuclear and biological weapons. Eventually they will strike and use these weapons. The results will be catastrophic.
2. The world economy is energy dependent and guess what? Oil production has peaked and soon the financial impact of spiraling energy costs coupled with unavailability of petroleum products will wreak havoc on the world’s economies.
3. Deficit spending. Many economies (including USA) are bankrupt and living on borrowed time.
4. Increasing crime.
The list could go on and on. JW’s may be in denial about what’s going on in the organization. Let’s not make the same mistake about what’s going on in the world.

by dawg inhey guys, album is going great so far... i hope we can finish it in 2008, around may or june.
anyway, i just had a thought which made me stop in for a while.
i was discussing something with a friend the other day, i hadn't even started speaking nor had i brought up the core of my point before he started screaming like some wild manaic; he started making up "straw man" arguments one after the other ad infinum, yelling like a banshee and accusing me of all sorts of thoughts that i don't believe... it was really bazarre.

Totally understand and agree. My wife's reaction to any critical thought regarding the WTS is to accuse me of not believing in God and doomed to destruction. Until something happens to a person that opens their eyes to the truth about the organization they seem to stay insulated against common sense.

I was born of southern parents and my father was a career military man. I was whipped a lot with belts, switches and occasionally slapped in the face. I grew up hating my father and couldn’t wait for the day when I would be big enough to kick his ass (and this I did at the age of 17). Eventually I matured to the point where I forgave my father for the excessively harsh whippings I received understanding that his life’s experiences had made him a frustrated and angry person. I don’t oppose corporal punishment when it is meted out properly.
Of course I carried forth the practice of hard angry whippings when I became a father and feel great regret and sorrow for the pain I caused my children. I feel fortunate that my (JW) children have forgiven me and while they spank their children have not done so excessively and have for the most part used other forms of discipline.

by inkling inok, so whenever i would question the justice of the df policy, i kept.
getting the same line (even from my dad, an elder):.
people are not disfellowshipped because of the actual sin, they are.

That is the core from which all they do springs. I was black balled for challenging the BOE’s decision (and winning) because I produced WT articles proving my position was supported by what the org. had stated in print. The odd thing is that everyone including the Service Desk in NY had to be pushed to agreeing that maybe I was right.
