During the time both groups were performing, I preferred the Beatles. Now I prefer to Rolling Stones. There have been so many great groups and I like Creedance Clearwater Revival over most.

perhaps you have to be one of those who grew up in the 60's to really appreciate this thread, but then my kids love 60's music too.
who did you think were the best, the beatles or the rolling stones?
is there a bit of a psychological angle here too?

who saw the apprentice tonight?
for those of you who missed it, it was the season opener.
donald has grouped the candidates into two teams (college graduates and high school graduates).
Nothing beats experience and intelligence for most jobs. Still, I think the right kind of college education gives knowledge and balance that will take one a little higher up the skill level. I guess it also depends on the profession you’re in. I wouldn’t want a “HS only grad” performing heart surgery on me.

well it has been alot of years since we engaged in the rooming work.
did anyone of you experience postive results or were people nasty.
share some of your stories.
I remember the rooming work. In the summer of 1972, two pioneer sisters from out of state stayed with my family during the International Convention. This was my first exposure to the realities of JW selfishness. I was a new JW of only a few months and I guess I expected these women would exemplify what I expected from Christians. Instead they were rude, demanding and not very thankful for our having put ourselves out for them. At the time, it broke my heart but it was the beginning of many more wakeup calls to come.

after much, much soul searching this past weekend i was once again confronted with the possibility of what can be called the divine.
it was not exactly a pleasant experience, as i have been denying, even ridiculing the idea of god basically since exiting the jws (guess i was more traumatized than i thought).
during this last year i have been convinced that i must have been crazy for believing in god.
IMHO belief does not contradict logic, even when it is belief in GOD. We ARE so GOD must be. I’ve thought about this a lot and I just don’t have enough faith in blind chance to believe in any alternative to God’s existence.

chief rabbi leon ashkenazi said: "the difference between an atheist christian and an atheist jew is that an atheist christian does not believe that god exists, while an atheist jew believes that god does not exist.".
i'm not so sure about the jewish-christian borderline, but i love the nuance.. so which sentence suits you better?.
"i don't believe that god exists.".
I'm the kind of athiest that believes in God but not man.
i went to take my daughter to school today and right at the end of her line was a jw with her child.
seeing as i had to take my child to her line, i had to stand very close to her.
i seen her out of the corner of my eye looking at me.
Some of the Witnesses get a real power trip by shunning others. I think most Witnesses though do the shunning without any evil intent and are just following what they have been told they should do. There are always two sides to every story and I for one like to hear both.

i am so angry tonight.
there is an elder and his wife who have upset so many with cruel/biting comments.
one family of 14 moved away because of them.
I’ve known some pretty low down Elders but this guy takes the cake. Maybe an anonymous letter to the WTS detailing as many of this jerks evil deeds along with his name and congregation would help. At the very least when the WTS sent him a copy of it he’d be so mad he might have a stroke.

how long did it take for you to revert back to your old ways of thinking, reasoning and attitudes from before you were a witnes .
eg i lived with my husband before we got married, then learned it was wrong.
now i see so many witness getting married too young (cos they want sex) that i dont think its such a bad idea.
Ok Hopthetrain, you have a point. My point is that I would never have quit smoking had I not been a believing JW with his back to the wall when the directive against tobacco came out in 1973. I later (without WT help) overcame a very serious drinking habit because it was my choice.

the wts is always saying that it is "spirit directed".. what exactly does that mean?
does any of the literature ever actually define "spirit directed"?.
in the past the literature said that angels came down and told russel and ruthorford what "truth" was... then when their "truth" started to fail, the wts started using the phrase "spirit directed".. is this just a way of saying "god controls us, but we are not accountable for any errors made"?.
You might be thinking about Titus chap. 1 and 1 st Timothy chap. 3. The qualifications for spiritually qualified men are outlined there. To the extent that one meets these qualifications you could say that Holy Spirit directed their appointments since God inspired the scriptures used.

is it realy the worst thing one can go through?
are you afraid of it??
has being disfellowshipped actually turned into a "blessing"?
Yes and no! If I were DF’d my current wife, ex-wife, kids and grandkids would make my life miserable. It would not bother me at all from the perspective of my relationship with God. My relationship with Jehovah would remain intact, as what the WTS does to me is their initiative not his.
