A little self inflicted exercise pain. Learning new forms in tae kwon do apparently is a great way to learn the muscle groups one ache in a place you didn't know existed at a time.

From Your Experience: Did Elder's Families Get Away With More Than Others?
by minimus inwas everyone treated the same in your hall?
-
Mysterious
This wasn't really true in our cong. The elder's kids did get in judicial trouble and the ms kids I knew had huge pressures to behave so their dub daddies could be made elders. They werent always angels but quite often thye parents truly didn't know what was going on.

Just wanted to say hi, also have a question
by exwitless inhey, everyone.
you probably didn't miss me, but i've been away from the board for a few months.
i guess you could say i'm an "irregular poster", and i'm "weak", and should do more "personal study".

Maybe I could have held a job in high school if I had had the extra night off during the week.

Do JW email each other about no more book study after they announce it?
by asilentone ini just want to make sure if the dubs asked me if i know about it, then i will say "i heard about it via email"

Well the hall here has a sign outside with the meeting times. If they change that due to no more book study they can't fault you for being observant right.

could jw's prove their beliefs without watchtower literature?
by atpeace ini was pondering this question today.
i thought it might be an interesting tactic to use with my family.
if i simply asked that they prove all beliefs by the bible alone.. growing up - every time discipline or counsel was given - it was based on getting out the bound volumes.

Does that count the sticky notes and marginal notations they have in their study bibles?

Questionnaire: Hypothetical Jehovah's Witness Nanny
by betterdaze inyou are a born-in, baptized jehovah's witness female, early 20s.
you are employed as a full-time nanny for a married couple of business executives who have a preschool-age child.
1) is your first responsibility to jehovah god and his earthly organization, or to your "worldly" employers?

1) Is your first responsibility to Jehovah God and his earthly organization, or to your "worldly" employers?
Give Ceasar's things to Ceasar and god's things to god. My responsibility would be to Jah and his earthly organization above any other.
2) Would you expose the child to "My Book of Bible Stories" or other Watchtower Society indoctrination? With/without seeking the parents' permission/input?
Yes I would expose the child to these materials. I would present them to the parents as harmless bible stories.
3a) Would you bring the child along in Field Service to fulfill your hourly reporting obligation, or to Kingdom Hall meetings? With/without seeking the parents' permission/input?
I would go in service on days I did not have to work or evenings. I would not feel the need to involve this child.
3b) If another Jehovah's Witness in good standing offered to watch the child (if only for a few moments, say, while you took one last door), would you allow them to do so?
Yes because I trust them but I would not be in the position see 3 a)
4a) You are in an automobile accident and the child is injured. Serious blood loss. At the hospital, who would you call first: The Hospital Liaison Committee, or the parents/other nearby family?
The parents as they are the child's emergency contact.
4b) Would you purposely delay contacting emergency medical services or parents/nearby family? (This delay could "buy out the opportune time" and prevent the child from receiving a dreaded
blood transfusion. "Wait on Jehovah." After all, the child may have a future "earthly resurrection hope" in the New System of Things.)No I would contact the parents immediately that is my responsibility as their caregiver. The child is too young to know better and god would not hold him/her accountable.
5) The Brothers ask you to report on the parents' personal activities and observe any business associates visiting their home. You have access to their opened mail, home computers, fax and
telephone answering machines, filing cabinets, etc. It would be easy to take a look while the child is napping, or eavesdrop on discussions with their high-profile business guests. No I would have said this wasn't their business if the parents were worldly. If the parents were unbaptized, baptized, inactive, etc then yes I would.
They are "worldly" people who work for "wicked" corporations in opposition to Jehovah, and all will "soon" be destroyed at Armageddon anyway. Would you cooperate with this breach of privacy
in order to further Kingdom interests?I would want to know how it was to further kingdom interests or if it was just people being nosy.

Doing something has crossed my mind before. I'm skinny and so don't have too much all out strength, and I suppose it could be useful to know how to defend one's self should it become necessary.
Martial arts are definitely good for that! This little five foot nothing girl in my class levelled our instructor with a palm strike when she was testing for her black belt and he's 6'3". As for me at white belt I already know how to break one and two hand wrist grabs as well as one and two hand collar grabs. Plus we are taught about angle of attack, timing, and distance to have the most defensible spot. Then the instructor holds pads so we can practice our knees and elbows and there goes the frustrations of having to do running & pushups earlier hehe. Definitely look into it if you are interested in strength, cardio, flexibility, self defense or self confidence.
My 9yr old son take Kyoshinkai Karate. He does have to bow before going into the dojo, but this is not human worship, it is just an act of respect. The Masters always make this clear when a new student signs on. Karate principals are based on respect. I was always taught it was bad and involved demons while growing up a JW. It is not that way at all. My son can chop blocks & wood with his palm and demons are not involved!!
Yeah my instructor emphasized that bowing was just respectful and also that the kind of mediation we do in class is not mystical/spiritual but just to relax and be mindful of the presence and to practice in class keeping in mind the tenets of tae kwon do (courtesy, integrity, perserverence, self control, indomitable spirit).
