I'm not sure really. I have never felt guilty but again my whole life I was told I wasn't generous or selfless enough so maybe that has something to do with it. Or being an only child ;p

Why does guilt often remain so long with those who've left the JWs?
by And He Ran ini would be interested in getting people's input in why so many jws - including me from time to time, though less so now - seem to be burdened by guilt after they've left, even after they've successfully faded and aren't being hassled by family or elders.
is it a residual leftover of the indoctrination over the years?
i welcome your comments.

martial arts
by Mysterious ini remember the jw view of martial arts being cemented in my head when i asked my mother at the age of 6 if i could take karate.
the look of horror on her face.
she told me it was violent and jws could not practice violence.

I remember the JW view of martial arts being cemented in my head when I asked my mother at the age of 6 if I could take karate. The look of horror on her face. She told me it was violent and JWs could not practice violence. Having met several black belts from varying disciplines I have to say that those truly involved in martial arts are some of the least violent people I have ever met. Then came the explanation of how many martial arts involved meditation and that was wrong. In my tae kwon do class we are told to be mindful of the present and engage in the class with a willing mind, OMG brainwashing I'm sure. Then I guess there is the bowing, but it isn't really a worshipful thing, it is more a a respect. Anyway to make a rambling story short I have finally started taking tae kwon do and I'm hoping to have my yellow belt by the end of the summer. I also hurt in places I had not imagined existed.
Has anyone else taken martials either before, during or after they were in the borg and what kinds of transformations in your attitudes toward martial arts have you undergone over time?

After Kingdom Hall bomb blast = Twisted Witness logic! Saved by Jah!
by Witness 007 inin sydney in the late 80's a bomb blew up the kingdom hall killing one man and injuring many.
the hall was badly destroyed.
later stories spread about how jehovah "saved" the congregation.. 1. the brother who died was large and sat in front saving many lives by taking the full impact.

They can turn everything into a victory for them. I remember an example like this in a book. There were 5 cubes and only 1 was to be chosen. The man said pick 3..if one of the 3 was the chosen one he took the other 2 away. If it wasn't he would state those 3 had been chosen to be discarded. Then from the 3 he said pick 1..if it was the 1 then that was marked the final choice, if it wasnt the one that one was discarded and then he said pick 1 (of the 2). Again if the chosen one was picked it was final, if it wasnt then the pick was a "discard". The illusion of free choice / chance but in reality the man totally controlled it. As with the watchtower, if no one dies then jah saved them, if only one person dies then jah still saves them.

It is very difficult to be in between two things in a culture that believes in binary opposites as the JWs do: male and female, black and white, good and evil, Jah and Satan. I can only imagine the pain your friend must have felt being caught in between these two. While the loss of life is saddening at least know your friend is now at peace and his/her example may help others in the same position or shed light on a seldom touched upon topic.

You know I had a prof like that this term and a similar grade. He actually offered me a re-write of one exam and I managed to come out okay. But man did that guy walk around like his **** don't stink. Just saying don't give up on your grade yet. As for email, well some profs are just not techno savvy. Try ambushing him at his office hours.

possible reason for end of BS?
by uriah init occurrd to me that maybe there was some independent thinking going on in the bs.
maybe the gb was afraid of small groups thinking too muchand having them all meet at the kh would put paid to any groups that were becoming a bit liberal.
as is known small bible study or at study groups were not allowed at bethel.

It always was poorly attended which led to "discouragement". If they only have to report public talk numbers they look much better. I remember our BS was usually 65% but the public talk was around 90%.

The JWs have to travel all the way to Kamloops B.C. again!!"
by 1914BS in) time that jws have to travel to kamloops british columbia, for their summer district convention.
this dc used to be held at the pacific coliseum in vancouver b.c.for at least 20 years that i know of.. i think that 2003 was the last year that jws went to the pacific colisuem in vancouver b.c.

I always hated going to Kamloops it was such a dead end hole of a town (no offense to those that reside there). At least when we went to Vancouver there were things to do and when I was really little I got to see my Grandma for a couple days. As far as travelling well, consider carpooling -- if you are by yourself greyhound round trip may be better than the car ride. Pack a cooler with stuff from home and avoid eating out to save a bit more money. And well if you are on the site already then take "sick days" instead of vacation days (hell you will be sick going to the convention) and tell your dubly relatives you are taking days without pay.

how to amaze a JW
by ninja input 2 cards in your pocket you have pre-written....one says...."new light"....the other says ..."where else can we go?
".......approach a jw...... put them on the spot with a few pointed questions......when they give their usual responses....i.e "new light" and "show me something better and i'll go there"....pull out the appropriate cards and they will think you are a prophet....or even better.....realise they are in a cult spouting programmed responses.....he he....ninja
