  Converstation with the doctor: not medical

  this very afternoon i went to see my doctor and after the medical discussion was over, he asked me if anyone in the family has contacted me or is speaking to me.

  in fact for the past nine years he has asked me the same question and i telll him the same answer no.. he is very well informed when it comes to witnesses.

  a huge percentage of jw's are his patients.

  That's cool that you can talk that way with your Dr. about JWs and he's able to relate somewhat.

  To address why they stay, just from what your Dr. said, I think one could infer that they stay because they feel they are alone. Many who have blazed the trail away are very brave souls, and I admire them. ( I am not one of the brave ones.) Back to those stuck; if they became aware of each other, I think that would change many things. Just like survivors of a natural disater crawling out of the rubble, these stuck ones need to know about each other and support one another.

  So, how do we as seasoned Apostates help these people? Its been debated here before, and I think that there is no one way to approach the problem. I do wish there was something that we could do or figure out that could reach these desperate souls seeking excape. First hurdle would be just finding them and knowing who they are.

  OFC, I hope the rest of your Dr visit went well.

  My uncle is dying

  my mom just called me and told me my uncle is dying.

  he has aplastic anemia and only has between 2 and 14 days left to live.

  the only treatment for aplastic amenia is bone marrow or cord blood transplant, which we all know he can't have.

  I'm sorry BB.

  This is an emotional nexus, could be a mess. IT is difficult to keep a clear head when our emotions get all distorted. Just remember that we all are who we are, and if he's been distant and cold his whole life, then he is likely not to change. Don't let that hurt you. But as you are who you are, it is only in your nature to be kind and reach out. To forget is human, to forgive is divine so they say. I don't really know what to tell you, but I'll be thinking of you.

  Oprah's new Book Club selection - A New Earth - anyone here participating?

  about 10 days ago she announced that eckhart tolle's book a new earth is her latest book club selection.

  tolle will be appearing with her on a live internet feed for 10 consecutive mondays starting march 3. this is a great opportunity for those who are looking for the ineffable "something" else that they find lacking in their usual pursuits...

  this isn't the usual kind of book that she promotes.

  what if you wen't back in time and stopped your mother from opening the door to the witnesses...and your family never came into the truth!!

  what if you risked changing everything else in your life...not having kid's or the same marriage partner...would it be worth it.

  No. The experience thought painful, was too educational. I might be tempted to shorten it, to help get my self or family out of it earlier. I had other issues growing up too, and they would need to have been addressed.

  Have You Ever Reported An Abuser?

  just wondering if any of you ever decided to report any kind of abuse, however small an incident it was.

  tonight i reported an incident of 20 years ago to the authorities.

  a man came up to me in london on the pretense that he was recruiting for christian dior and to cut a long story short we arranged to meet the next day for an interview.

  About the time that I first started posting here I reported my nephew's school that he and a few of the other boys (1st or 2nd grade) were being fondled and intimidated by another boy. My nephew would pee his pants to avoid going to the bathroom and risk contact with this kid.

  I lived in eastern Washington at the time, and I emailed the King County police. I gave them the name of the school, and the name of the student who was doing this. This kid had been to over half a dozen schools because he kept getting kicked out for this type of behavior. Because he was so young, he was allowed to slip through the system.

  My sister was angry with me for overstepping her parental authority. Her two mistakes were not taking care of this herself, and complaining to me about it.

  She got her revenge later on me when she outed me to my family. But that also bit her on the ass and was actually a good thing for me.

  Do you still pray?

  i was wondering about this the other day before i went to sleep, out of habit and my spiritual beliefs now, i spoke to the spiritual realm above and asked for guidance and protection.. i remember my journey of leaving the jw "borg" (a new term i have picked up here - i like it!

  ) and at first i refused to pray at all, and then i wasn't sure i wanted to or not, and then i developed my own sense of the higher power above and spirituality and every night before i sleep, i feel blessed to have another day of life, to do it all again.

  even on days when i am not having such a good day, i take time to ask the higher realm for strength and direction.

  Not to any God or TM version of the same, so no Jehovah, no bible god, no allah. I don't call it prayer, but don't know what to call it. I 'pray' to the universe, my higher self, my subconscios, family and friends. Strangers too, like in traffic "Please don't hit me,". Maybe its just talking or communicating one way. I used to say "thankyou" to my dog or cats, kinda nutty but didn't hurt.

  i dont think there is anything i could hear or see that would make me turn red or cause my mouth to hang agape.

  For Christians...Is It Just Me or Am I Losing My Mind

  i just ended a three week sabbatical from attending my usual christian fellowship.

  going back last night, i was struck by just how superficial and shallow the worship service was.

  it was almost as if the worship leader was trying to manufacture joy in the believers.

  I've seen a few church services which use what I term 'emotional manipulation' - some of us, like you are more aware of what's going on. Maybe its time for you to seek another place to fellowship?

  Yep, when you start to think to yourself "Oh PLEASE GOD make them shut up!", you're ready to move on. Someone said its like school as a kid, and I think that's a good metaphor. So now you're ready for grade 1-6. What will it be? I've been thinking of checking out a Buddhist temple in Seattle or near by, I don't want to be a buddhist, but I think its more what I am in tune with.

  You could try a yoga or Tai Chi class. It depends on if you need a group of people, or if you're ready to be a solitary practitioner of what ever belief system suits you. Explore. Tell us what you find.
