In the end, this process was not productive and I grew weary and realized the problems were systemic and this thing could not be fixed. I left as soon as the opportunity presented itself.

The WT is like the Titanic. They are headed for the same sort of end (soon I hope) and no one will steer them away from it.

Are any aware of similarities between JW's and the Mad Scientologists

i was just curious if any here had familiarity with both cults.

my wife is involved with the jw's, and my sister used to be a scientologist.

i was telling my sister about the various, dubious aspects of the jw religion, and she just couldn't stop laughing at the remarkable similarities.. for example, they don't have meetings all week, they have "classes".. if you miss the classes, you will get phone calls to see if "everything is ok".. if you fall out of favor with the organization, you may be "declared" (this is the same as df).

So I figured I would open the floor to any who would like to share their thoughts.

It does sound like just another bunch of control freaks to me. I am sick of organizations and people that feel the need to control me.

I don't like religion,politicians or bosses at work. I guess I am just an old grumpy fart... Works for me.

Guarding the platform at assemblies and conventions

can anyone tell me why this practice was stopped.

i was told the reason for the guards was to prevent apostates from "attacking" anyone up there and disrupting the program.

has anyonne witnessed an "attack" of apostates gone wild?

The practice was not stopped. There are attendants at the entrance to the stage at all of our assemblies.

Still lots of security at all the assemblies. I remember as do many others the dot placed on your lapel badge to identify youself to others of the security team.The team is placed around the platform and even in the front rows so nobody can approach the stage without being challenged. It is kept very low key and most dubs are not aware of it at all. I worked security one year and my job was to keep track of a pedophile. He was not a brother but someone who targeted the assemblies. We took shifts watching him the whole day. I don't know why we couldn't kick his sorry ass out of there but maybe they figured it was better to know where he was at all times. Looking back at the Rutherford era the security is way more relaxed now. Remember the pictures of all the brothers with canes. That was the WT version of clubs and they were used to beat heads and they did..

Here we had two attendants stationed at every vending machine with orders to belly push any little kids away trying to buy a Rainbow Lifesavers. This is true. I was there and my three year old son and I were belly pushed away from a vending machine by Jehovah's Witnesses at their district assembly in Bismarck North Dakota. .

Gary...That's more important duty than guarding the platform.They must have realised that every nickle that went to buying candy for a little child was not going to wind up in their pockets and it hurt them bad... A*#holes

Do they HAVE to give an "apostate" a second warning (Titus 3:10)?

this should be interesting and fun.. i'm going to get involved in helping my sister with the appeal meeting.

i'm going to call brooklyn and ask them if a person is accused of apostacy and was brought to the elders on that charge but it was determined that there was "repentence".

can elders df on the second time even if that person says sorry...shouldn't the scripture in titus 3:10 apply to this situatioin where it says "as for a man that promotes a sect, reject him after a first and a second admonition"?.

Then I'll hold that information until we meet with the appeal committee and when they "give me hassle" I can then show that they ARE wrong in this.

They are only wrong according to the bible. As we all know if the bible says one thing and the WT says another they go with the WT view.

With regards to apostacy...they are scared s*#tless of it and will at all costs excise the tumor that will corrupt the flock. Look for no mercy or justice from the JC.

recently i attended a circuit assembly here in canada and was surprised that they were using this term.. "alternative service" is field service other than the door to door work.

so street work, phone witnessing and business are now called "alternative service.".

it cracks me up how they adopt terms from the "world" that they hate so much.

Starbucks and Tim Hortons...here we come.You just got to lay out the mags on the table as you are enjoying a double double and a cream filled donut and it becomes....ALTERNATE SERVICE. Look for the stats in 2005 to go through the roof as jehovah blesses this new arrangement..
