  The rules to belong to the group are heavily weighted on the "Do Nots".

  They are an inclusive club - everybody can join. All nations, all tongues, all colors, all ages, but...once you join, you MUST behave as one.

  And that 'unity' is achieved by restricting movement - once inside the group, their hands are tied and their Achilles tendon is severed. One big herd of people, not able to walk or feed themselves. Totally disabled and totally dependent upon a leadership that starves them.

  similarities between, jw:ism, stalinism, putinism, and mullahism, popeism and maoism..

  all these leaders has been elected by un elite group controlling big values in form of real estate, bank account, enthusiastic voluntary working task forces, almost willingly to die for their leaders.

  the workers (slave class), is never ever supposed to question the leaders decisions.

  Your list is comprehensive. Something that might add to your exploration are the similarities concerning the use of 'rules' and the consequences for breaking the rules.

  Within each politco-cultural group that you mention, the more totalitarian the regime, the more 'micro-managed' it becomes. Stringent and numerous rules, sometimes ones that make little sense, are put in place - like a net around the power base - and the consequences for those who get caught in the net, become more dire as the control tightens.

  *to add - the rules act as the cell walls in the panopticon - the rules serve to divide and keep the 'inmates' under control

  Good luck with your Phd - I wouldn't mind getting one of those before I die, too. :) I could then change my name to Dr. Crow. Lol!

  Danish crime series begins with apparent shunning of a young mother, returning home after two decades

  i began watching a well-reviewed crime series -- dicte -- in streaming netflix last night.

  although it is compelling, the audio was in danish and was close-captioned into english.

  i didn't complete the first episode because watching cc is too laborious for me.

  Fatfreek, I watched the whole series Dicte not too long ago. It is well worth watching. Season 2 gets into the blood transfusion issue. .

  I like sub-titled shows - I can read faster than the actors speak and it leaves me time to look at the sets and pay attention to the camera cuts. :)

  Ummm...no. If you read Ehrman's response to Terry question, you would realize that 'Jehovah' does not appear at all in the original Hebrew text. 'Jehovah' is a made up word.

  The tetragrammaton appears in the dead Sea scrolls, but not the word 'Jehovah'.

  what's the problem with prophecy?prophecy primarily requires a pattern recognition or insightful strategy not an analytical strategy.

  prophecy rarely gives names whether of empires or their rulers.

  even the name of the messiah - yeshua -wasn't foretold.

  Did Rutherford use the KJV of the bible when he took over the WTS ?

  Yes. I believe that the KJV was used right up until the NWT was published in the 1960s. My dad's old JW bible is a KJV.

  Yes, the King James version does use 'Jehovah'.

  'Jehovah' appears 7 times in the KJV (all in the Old Testament).

  Finklestein, I think that the use of the word 'Jehovah', within the Millerite movement, was already well established by the time that Russell got his feet wet in the proverbial muck of bible prophecy.

  George Storrs published the Bible Examiner in 1843 until 1880. His text is liberally sprinkled with the word 'Jehovah'.
