  Asshole Atheism – Not for me, now or ever.

  to start off with let me clarify that by asshole atheism i am not referring to strong atheism or any other type of upfront atheism.

  what i am referring to is the belligerent, hateful atheism that smacks of trolls and other types who want to derail conversation or comments at any cost..

  i enjoy hearing comments from both sides of the subjects of theism, nationalism or politics, especially from those who have intense opinions.

  Assholism is not confined to any one set of beliefs, race, gender, or any other defining characteristic of a person/group.

  An asshole is an asshole. You can find them everywhere there are people.

  How Many Disfellowshipped Are There In The US?

  i've read in the watchtower, as well as observed personally, that 1% of the congregation gets disfellowshipped every year.

  i'm not good at the math but i figure that it's 40% since 1975 (yes i know, they're growing).

  i know that quite a few return but still, there must be a large percentage of disfellowshipped jws who will never return.

  All a person has to do is investigate how many splinter groups there has been over the years. Many of these splinter groups have been recently established.

  Percentages and stats would be hard to come by, VillageIdiot. The WTS publishes numbers but I don't see how they could possibly keep track of the 'fall-aways' and faders and hanger-ons. Disfellowshipped people they can keep stats on (and I don't believe the WTS stats), but the others would be difficult to track.

  I have encountered many ex-JWs in some pretty unexpected places and circumstances. Lots. Some were disfellowshipped, but most were just 'faders'. I have often thought that it is possible that there are far more ex-JWs than there are JWs.

  i wonder if the fact it's been 15 degrees out had anything to do with it?

  I think it is rather humorous that the JWs have tables on campuses. Places of higher learning attract people with critical reasoning skills.The JWs are only setting themselves up for ridicule with their literature aimed at a Grade 3 level comprehension.

  Thank you, Mash. that is very kind, considerate and respectful for you to ask.

  No, I am not angry. And yes, I was getting a little annoyed.

  I get annoyed at some things - mosquitoes, not having sugar for my coffee this morning, taking over two hours to sign in today and having to uninstall my browser 3 times, and then re-install a different browser. Those things all annoy me. I also get annoyed at having to do dishes every day.

  It is frustrating. But those things, along with people who aren't considerate, don't make me angry. If I was angry, everyone would certainly know. I have no problem at all expressing anger when it is appropriate. (Yes, Abigail, it is appropriate to be angry at times.)
  

  But, after I exercised my right to indifference, and went to bed calmly and happily last night, I thought about our Abigail's reaction to my posts and realized that it was a prime example as to why so many people will never 'wake up'. There are many people who are only comfortable being victims, and they will go out of their way to make everyone around them into a victim, too, so that they have company in their chosen role.

  So, Abigail, I don't love you. I don't know you and I am careful with who I give my affections to. I only offer my love to people I know and care about.
  

  And, I don't hate you, either. Hate is exactly the same emotion as love - it means that the person hating cares. Caring is a characteristic of both emotions.

  Abigail your offer of forgiveness is meaningless - I have done nothing to be forgiven for. However, if it makes you feel better to be so self-sacrificing, then go at it.

  Give it up. I don't need saving. And I don't need people telling me how to feel based upon their feelings, not mine. I am a grown adult and I have full awareness of my own feelings. I am entitled to feel whatever way I want to - and you have no clue as to how I feel. None.

  I will identify my feelings myself - you are far from qualified to do so. You are way out of line.

  please understand i have nothing against islam.

  i have something against alpha muslim men.. i was walking my cute little chihuahua mix in the park the other day when darts off sniffing since i am using a retractable extension leash and i am not minding the fact that he comes up on a muslim family and gets within a foot of them.

  the paterfamilias gives me a dirty look and then says something to his wife and i can make out the word "saif" which is arabic for "sword.

  Are you willing to blow yourself up for your GOD. Now that is faith. I would have a difficult time fasting. We did not have it so bad, we knocked on a few doors, we didn't have to pray three times a day and our women didn't look like mummies dress from head to toe.

  Nah, you didn't have it that bad. You didn't have to blow yourself up for God, you just had to commit suicide if you needed a blood transfusion.

  You need to understand why this abuse happened - what made people who they are, walk in their shows, they are human too. Sinners.
