This thread stirs so many emotions in me:
as a child who went through it,
as a young pioneer who distinctly remembers a 40-something brother (who had recently divorced, won custody of his 2-year-old daughter, married a (ahem) less than attractive 20-something pioneer (ahem), became an elder, and beat the shit out of his then 3-year-old princess (she was a sweetie) for not sitting still for 2 hours, at the back (not even in the bathroom),
and me, imitating him, 10 years later, in the same hall, to the little girl, who was, and is (at 23), the love of my life.
This cult is so messed up.

2 Memorial memories
Long time ago - anointed sister at the front of the hall. Has put 2 drums of lipstick on. Virtually the whole hall ends up passing this glass gobbed in lipstick. Hilarious.
Splane munching crackers. Guy always creeped me out.

Would you do this to your kids? Is this cold or am I crazy?
by BU2B inmy mentally in jw wife is trying to organize a "princess party" for my 4 year old daughter and her little cousins and friends.
she was looking at prices of a tent for the backyard party in case it rains.
she asked the hardware store how much and they said 90 dollars for the day.

You do realize that your period of trial-marriage has ended, and that the bride-price is now due your F-I-L.

Sounds like a new TV series in the making.

How many things did you toss out in the name of Jehoover
by love2Bworldly ini had a flash back yesterday.
my non jw husband and i went to disneyland and bought my young daughter a set of 7 dwarf toys.
after a few months i felt guilty and threw them away, thinking they were demonized.

MINT albums (got a $1. for them at the record store - the clerk was stunned at their condition),
books,
the job that is/was my favourite,
finishing post-secondary education,
my teeth and my childrens' teeth,
not marrying for profound love,
not being financially anywhere near where I should be at this stage;
my and my childrens' mental health,
true friends;
all things considered, not many regrets.
(This doesn't count the MANY thousands of dollars of antiques the OPOMC destroyed trying to silence voices in her head.)

Need a Game Plan
by bafh ini'm not sure what is going on at the convention, but i just got a desperate call from a friend wanting me to attend sunday's morning session.
last weekend, my mom invited me too.instead of saying something like, "i'm sorry, but i have no intention of going back," and having them completely freak out - i agreed to go to the sunday morning session.
any recommendations?

If you're in or near a major centre, spend time going through meetup.com
There are scores of groups.
Force yourself to go at least to one - force yourself to talk to people for even 1 minute. Go back to their next meetup. People are great.

There was a post somewhere where an elder said "We want a broken person."
This "religion" thrives on guilt and fear. No one is accepted unless they feel worthless.
If you have skill, talent, education, ability - you need to be knocked down.
As a parent, it is the exact opposite of how I want my children to feel.
For those who feel God is our parent, He does not want his children to feel like they're shit.

Commenting At The Meetings---Did You Enjoy It?
by minimus inwas that important for you?
most people, i believe, forced themselves to give an answer.
i knew many elders and servants over the years being counseled because they rarely answered.. funny thing....my mom who is 88 cries if she doesn't give a comment.

I love that there is such pressure to comment, yet those with restrictions usually include "no commenting" ????

James Garner is tied with Clint for all-time favourite male actors.
I still remember a dream I had eons ago of racing down an L.A. street a la Rockford.
