Trying to find WT

i am trying to find the wt that says we have to obey the gb even when what they say makes no sense.. i think it was 4 year's ago.

i know it was just mentioned in a thread and i have looked but just cannot find it.

i want to show it to my counselor this afternoon.. thanks i'm advance if anyone can find it..

17 Elders who are reading this article can draw some useful conclusions from the account we have just considered: (1) The most practical step that we can take to prepare for the coming attack of “the Assyrian” is that of strengthening our faith in God and helping our brothers to do the same. (2) When “the Assyrian” attacks, the elders must be absolutely convinced that Jehovah will deliver us. (3) At that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from Jehovah’s organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint. JW Literature Trolleys Don't Carry the Book Of Mormon

this morning the jws set up two literature trolleys at our local shopping centre.

the trolleys were situated within 20 feet of each other with six jws attending them.

why they needed six jws on hand i have no idea as everyone was ignoring them.. anyway i thought i'd have some fun.

And there weren't any Bibles out. Maybe they were under the counter?

Probably....

Bibles are basically for use only if asked for and interest shown - otherwise I suppose if they were displayed a lot of poeple would just take it - after all a free bible is a free bible in their view probably.

Also I think they're directed NOT to accept any monetary contributions / donations for items they give out on the cart / public display witnessing.

Another Kingdom Hall sold

berkeley kingdom hall in wollongong south of sydney australia has just been sold.

berkeley congregation are now sharing a neighbouring hall at dapto.. .

the reason given was the governing body has taken over all the halls and the building was in need of repair.

That sounds like a heck of a lot of money just for a hall

haha - firstly that's probably AUS dollars? - so just under $2 million US dollars I believe?

also, they weren't buying it for the Hall, but the land....

just a remembrance of the woodland hills, ca assembly hall.

i am enclosing a partial copy of a wikipedia article covering the purchase and subsequent sale of the facility by the jw.

i am enclosing the link and please pay attention to the bold portion of the document.. the theater project was backed by entertainers bob hope and art linkletter, along with cy warner.. the 2865-seat facility opened july 6, 1964 with the sound of music.

Yeah, and considering how wikipedia can be freely edited, I linked to the previous thread here from nine years ago to show that the $30 million figure was being used and quoted back then, much nearer to when the events described took place.

how do i turn off the formatting when i use the quote button?.

when i want to start a new paragraph and can't get out of the quote section?.

When I want to start a new paragraph and can't get out of the quote section?

My first 'easy peasy' tip to try out is this -

When you start a new comment, and before you type anything or paste anything...

Use the return key / carriage return about ten or so times to go down the page

Then use the cursor keys to go back to top and start typing and pasting

This means if you get into a problem or situation such as you describe - you simply escape it by using the down cursor keys to move on to the blank lines you made earlier.

(and don't worry about deleting any unused extra lines at the bottom of your comment / post before you submit it - I understand that Simon's forum software automatically removes any 'spare' blank lines)

Fun with Google Trends

in case you don't know, google trends is a fantastic tool - it lets you look at search terms over time and view trends.

it can, for instance, tell you if interest in something is growing or diminishing based on how many people are searching for it.. of course it can't tell if the searches are for negative or positive information .... here's some results for jw related terms:.

They seem to have had a boost in the last 5 years as they embraced the Internet but it looks like things are now starting to wane.

That's the number of searchs for using the google search engine (not actual website visits)

Therefore it probably just shows that people are getting much more savvy with their internet use and learning how to do a direct type in for the website they want, rather than typing it into google first, then clicking a link. Or maybe now people are much more used to using a bookmark too.

Of course that now means that dubs are much less likely to see 'other' sites as they're not searching in the first place, they're going direct - which was likely the goal of the GB by going with an easy and very short domain name.

Oh, and of course, the increased use of the QR code.

London K.H.'s - Which Ones Will Be Sold Off?

according to the org's website, various congregations will be moving in with other congregations, effective january 1st 2017.

(i've only highlighted a couple) in all probability, their own k.h.

is/has been sold.

Why don't you do a search and bring us back the results.

Ah, but what makes you think that I haven't?.... and they're listed in my previous post above?....

Actually I suspect that there is very little room for movement vis-a-vis K.H.s/congregations within the metropolitan areas of the UK as a whole

Therefore IMHO The Searchers OP was unhelpful and just leads to giving 'false hope' - and is why I called The Searcher out on it

So, what is gonna happen??

I think the rural areas of the UK are too thinly populated to move move congregations to new K.H.s to allow a K.H. to be sold - remember that Brits have a very restricted view of distances - they just are not that used to travelling long distances.

Therefore, as explained above, with no real room for movement in the metropolitan areas......

That leaves the suburbs and smaller mid-sized towns - which I do think could be ripe for sell-offs -that's what we're already seeing - for example Brighton/Hove:

So, in conclusion, don't look to London as suggested by The Searcher - look at the mid-sized towns that are currently home to three or four congregations in two or even three K.H.'s - that's were the combining, joining, sharing and.... sell-offs will come from.

BUT, remember this is just conjecture - I'm still waiting for the following link: "According to the org's website, various congregations will be moving in with other congregations, effective January 1st 2017."
