Tomorrow will be one of the PROUDEST days of my life.
by nicolaou iniv'e been posting here a long time but here's something i never shared before .
i'm still a window cleaner.
i'm not going to rant at the 'society' because they don't own my anger anymore but my work is certainly a legacy of my cult past.

I come here for the support. I like Terry's description of a triage.
What has helped me was reading other's experiences and realizing I wasn't alone.
Just knowing others went through the same things, had the same feelings, in different countries even, really helped me.
I would say this is a support site first.
Thank you to Cofty , who correctly noted that some discussions have made a difference. The EPIC thread comes to mind. That discussion really helped me analyze the difference between what I thought I knew and what was fact.

Memories. .. share the earliest or most favorite childhood memory
by MissFit inmy daughter tells me that experts say children tend to have false memories.
apparently their brain tends to fill things in that may not be totally accurate.. i refuse to believe that my favorite and comforting memory might not be true.
so here is to fond memories real or not.. the earliest memory i have is being put in a crib at a preschool.

one last step..Is being mentally out the same as being emotionally out?
by MissFit inwe talk here about the importance of being mentally and physically out to be really free.. what about being emotionally free?.
i realized for me, i had to be emotionally awake first.
i had been yo-young back and forth for years.

Hello all, after the holidays, I have spent some time assessing my emotional freedom.
This was the first year I put up a tree and decorated it.
It was more of a celebration of my freedom than of Christmas. I am trying to
unchain myself from the taboos and superstitions that were ingrained in me.
I was not struck by lightning .lol. I was surprisingly guilt free.
I did admit to my mom this year that I wasn't going to meetings instead of letting her assume I was.
Anyone else shed a few more emotional chains lately?

How did your family react when you made it known that you did not want to be a JW anymore?

Welcome Gone and Forgotten..
Please start an introductory thread so everyone can "meet" you and welcome you.
You are not alone. Isn't comforting to know that there are many others who can relate to what you went through,
I'm sorry you did not get the support you needed from the elders. I am glad you were able to move on.

Poster country flags and privacy
by Simon inthe new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).
before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.
first, the reason i think it should be shown:.

Hi Kate, I also check out posters' histories when they are giving advice.
I think it is a wise practice. I find it gives me a context around their comments. Also it gives me a chance to get to "know" them.
I like the idea of a generic flag option for those posters who want to opt out.
I personally think knowing the country adds a little context.
Sometimes phrases or words have different meanings or connotations depending on where you are from.

Should I even bother telling someone what I think of their parenting . . . .any advice?
by skeeter1 inthe situation: a neighbor's child and mine have played together for 8 years.
her mother is a single parent, and a probable narcissist.
loves designer clothes, bentleys, money, will not date a regular joe or even a rich man who doesn't drive the right car, wear the right clothes, etc.

No. What do you think it will acomplish?
It is not your business as long as it doesn't affect your daughter or put her in danger . If you feel the child is in danger you can always inform the authorities.
The daughter is old enough to put her own seatbelt on.
Just my 2 cents.

Still pointing your Finger when having a Rafter in your eye?
by DocHouse inyes- everyone has faults and makes mistakes; an organization even more so.. yet, you ignore all the fingers pointing at you.. many here have no faith.
many here go to churches who lie about everything biblical; look at x-mas!.
but at least we know god and christ and try to live up to their name!.

Welcome DocHouse please enjoy your visit . If keep your mind and eyes open on your journey here you, will find an interesting experience ahead of you.
You do know that if you told the Elders that you think alot of what the f&ds says is baloney and added on you would be labled an apostate?
Many are here for that same reason. They agree with you. But like you they did not have anyone they could discuss it with safely and respectfully .
You say respectful debates are rare here. I disagree. Check some more threads out with an open mind. Stifle your automatic reflex to defend or counter argue. Just "listen" and stop to really think about the argument you were going to use. Does it really make sense or was it preprogrammed responses you are repeating from the publications or meetings?
The reason these people here are giving you their time to "respectfully debate" you is because many of them were you. They were right where you are now.
They also can pretty much predict what your responses will be because that is what they would have said. The difference is now they know why the responses are not accurate and what the logical fallacies were that prompted them.
They also know that you have to discover it on your own. They can point the way and give you the benifet of their research, but ultimately it is up to you.
They know you have made the first step by coming here and by admitting to recognise the baloney.
Enjoy the freedom here to explore and question.
Remember respect goes both ways.
BTW I am here because I want to cut the baloney out of my diet. But as an active JW I did not have that option.
Here I do. I can openly question and discuss things without fear of being shunned.
RE the dont feed the troll comment: I think some people are too quick to jump on the troll wagon. I appreciate the posters here that give posters the benifet of the doubt.
You dont know how many trolls have turned into critical thinking posters( aka apostates.)
