  To Nephew X: if you are reading this: Welcome.

  Please if you are having any doubts at all I implore you to investigate. This site will give you access to a lot of information for you to research.

  Congratulations on your impending fatherhood.

  I wish I had acted on my doubts and would have had access to this site 26 years ago before my children were born. I yo-yoed back and forth during their childbood.

  I was in long enough to instill fear of destruction and displeasing Jehovah.

  My husband was not a JW. My son learned that God would kill his father for not believing in him. How could I do that to him?

  I hope that when you start teaching your child, you will be sure of what you believe.

  It is so hard to undo the damage.

  I tripped into a JW literature cart

  i wasn't looking where i put my feet, and i almost took the cart out!

  anyway, i stopped and chatted with the people for a bit.

  three women and a man -- an elder and his wife.

  Just when you think you're past it all...

  you"re now the "unbelieving mate" who is now pursuing your degree just before your mid-life crisis hits because until you woke up to the tatt, you bought into the whole "you'll never grow older in this system of things...".

  you're watching your parents grow old fully-invested.... your spouse still invested because "there is no better alternative....".

  your in-laws still won't come over tomorrow (thanksgiviing day) to eat turkey because it might just look like.... just when you think you're past it all and you feel that little bit of jw that is still there at your core eventhough you think you're beyond jwism..... and you remember and empathize and love your loved ones just a little bit more... because as of yet, they cannot find it in them to distance themselves from somethign you found limiting, closing, dark, and oppressive.. may they all find their freedom one day.

  Oh phae That was beautiful. I am sorry the hurt is still there , but obviously so is the love. You are not alone. Many here understand and can feel your pain.

  Ever notice how JW's can attend a talk or Convention and remember nothing?

  how many times have you asked a jw who has attended a public talk how the talk was, only to be told it was so great!

  yet they cannot remember the title nor any one single point except that the brother was "funny" or was good with illustratiions or some other vauge point?

  and conventions weren't far off either.

  I always came home feeling like I wasn't doing enough. There was always that checklist:.and

  prayer? ( yes) original, and regular ? ummm

  personal study ?( yes? does highlighting the mag. during the song count?)study for all meetings ?, look up scriptures?

  Meetings: yes. RegulAr attendance? Oops had to work some nights.

  Service: yes. How many hours. not enough..

  NO PARADISE FOR YOU.

  How to wake up and reverse the trance???

  how do you wake up someone taken from us by these screwed up people?.

  our son was hooked by a jw at the age of 25. within 3 months they were married and we never even new about it.

  he is now 29 and has nothing to do with his family(except his sister the odd time, when he needs something) of any freinds.. we are lost and have been for four years.. .

  Audience Contact - Use of notes

  well, no audience contact but i am talking about use of notes.

  i always wondered about note taking at conventions and assemblies.

  why does this happen?

  Taking notes was the only thing that kept me awake. And that didnt always work.

  I liked to note encouraging scriptures.

  I must say some speakers were harder to follow and I would give up and just note the scriptures.

  Sometimes I couldn't tell what the main point was or how it tied to the scripture.

  A Salute to the Kids of Dubdom

  as the unfortunate school-age children of jws worldwide, or at least in christendom, face up to two of what must certainly be the most dreaded days of the school year -- today and monday, i don't think it would be remiss to do pay them tribute -- the honor of a brief recognition of some sort, say by the raising of a glass, a prayer, a couple moments' reflection, whatever.. i refer to all those of the trembling knees, quivering lips, moistened eyes and hollow feelings in the pits of their little tummies as they loyally face up to the humiliation of standing aside from the masses of christmas celebrants among their school friends.

  how they must agonize over dealing with the incessant questions of their mates about ``what are you going to do this christmas," ``what did santa bring you?

  '' -- not to mention listening to the spirited banter of their school friends recounting how much fun they had and what they found under tree christmas morning, etc.

  Thanks for resurrecting this thread. Some threads are timeless.

  This brings back many memories of when I was in school.

  I do think JW kids have it easier in the( U S at least )now.

  schools and teachers are more sensitive to religious differences and try to keep things more secular. Now they are going on "winter"breaks and have winter parties or end of year parties.

  Bill Cosby - too much smoke for no fire?

  it seems like the list of people who are accusing him of rape and sexual assault is growing every day.

  i'm skeptical of single accusations but the number of people and the similar stories seem overwhelming now.. it's not a conviction but to the court of public opinion ... guilty?.

  What I find interesting is the reaction from Bill Cosby's sponsors. T V land pulled re-runs of his show. They did not wait until he was charged or went to trial.

  The same thing happened to another actor. The syndicate pulled reruns of his show and he was cut from some of his current jobs.

  The same thing happened at my work. This city employee was arrested for molesting a minor at his home

  He was immediately suspended without pay and then quietly dismissed so when the article appeared in the paper he was identified as an employee.

  The business world does not want to be in any way associated with someone accused of sexual assault.

  Do you think the WT will start following that business model?
