(although i could be proved wrong).
if any alien lifeform was found on mars or another planet or even a comet, be it tiny bacteria or even some form of non carbon based life form, would that not destroy religions grip on mankind?

Spirituality is innate!

they gathered on the streets, lit candles, wrote condolence, anything to feel solidarity and to spread a wave of love.
churches, temples, mosques and retreat centers were flooded with people seeking to raise their consciousness beyond the senseless killing to a higher, more noble plane.

What happy, wonderful thing happened to you since you left the "truth"?
by Jeannette inmore than one thing for me, but i have learned to enjoy festivals, and just enjoying free time.
it's not that the org wouldn't allow it, i just felt i shouldn't.
there are others, of course, and i really have been happier and good things have come my way since i left.

Doing lots of things with a clear conscience! From playing dungeons and dragons to having sex. working out my own moral code was wonderful. Discovering that *I* didn't steal because I empathised with other people and didn't want them to feel bad (I've been robbed a few times). NOT because I was afraid of being caught either by the police or some deity or whatever.
It's enough to make a chap feel good about himself... :)

Modern Morality .
by jhine inhaving recently been posting on a thread about ot moral values , which are not widely "appreciated " to say the least , i have been thinking about our modern morals about sex and reletionships , or more acurately the lack of any sexual morals todays .
i don't think that we are better off as a society which has gone so far to the do want you want , with whom you want and when you want approach to sexual ethics as we have .
i don't think that women are actually liberated by this attitude .

Onager, interesting economics. The cab drivers I talked to in New York worked for similar reasons. They made their money in the Big Apple then spent the rest of the year in Puerto Rico or some other tropical paradise. The noise, stink, dirt, and stress for a few months paid for paradise.
Yeah, if a person is not being coerced into it then I don't have any argument against them doing something which I (or my sister or mother) would find distasteful.
If they are being forced into it against their will then that's a different matter. That's an issue that extends well beyond just the sex trade though.
