Excellent thread
During one of my insomniac nights, I turned on HBO and saw a documentary entitled: Twist of Faith
It was the life of a man suing the Catholic Church because of being pedophiled by a priest. He was in his mid-thirties suffering as your article so articulately describes. One clip was him visiting his mother and telling her that her contributing to the Catholic Church while she knew about him being pedophiled was: GUILT BY ASSOCIATION.
He had marital problems and filed for divorce, although the divorce didn't go thru. He despises religion, which I totally understand. You could totally feel his pain. Maybe I could, because I found out my adult son was abused at the age of 6 by another JW boy (found out 2 years ago). I see his pain, and his reaction to his wife and me. I chose to leave the WTBS based on the May 2002 Dateline exposting the pedophile coverup in JW's. I too considered if I stayed it would mean: GUILT BY ASSOCIATION.
My adult son knows recently why I am not at meetings, because of the pedophile coverups....... You would think he would understand but he has chosen to view me as DEAD, he can't see how the religion I raised him in, is just as culpable as the Catholic church is that was talked about from the platform on many service meetings at the KH. Now I wait to hear news if he has left his wife or cheated on her or has become a full fledged alcoholic.
Victims suffer for decades. That was evident in "Twist of Faith". It's sad, very sad. My heart goes out to all of them.
