I think it's good that emeth puts on his rebellion hat and talks on this website. It allows some of the undercover/fading ones on here to actually have a discussion about something with a jw without being labelled as scriptually weak by some wanna-be therapist. It's also funny to see just how long it takes for an active jw to realise that they're losing an argument and that not even the silver sword can save them

If The Organization Was A Country, Then.......?
by metatron ina different way to look at the organization.. suppose that the organization was a country of 8 million or so.
given that jw's believe that god will one day slaughter everyone else and leave them to inherit the globe, this is a fair matter to think about.. would "watchtowerland" be a theocracy..... like iran?.
would it be ruled by a group of old men........like the former soviet union?.

If the org was a country then there'd be no need for universities or an education system of any kind i guess. Just generation after generation of home-schooled people home-schooling other people until in a few hundred/thousand years when they can't remember how to read anything except the publications

How did you find the truth about the truth (TTATT)
by Maat13 ini am sure there has been a post about this subject, however being a recent addition to the network i don't know how to do a search.
and i'm sure new folks have joined since then.
i am really curious of how others came to know ttatt.. for me is was a real bad experience with one elder after another.

AnnoMaly's picture really sums it. All "apostates" ,i.e, anyone who says stuff withput the gb seal of approval, are obssesed with spreading their poisonous teachings.
If you really want to remain steadfast in the truth you need to follow the example of the brother in the beige suit and completely ignore anything anyone says that you don't want to hear about your religion. And don't forget to do as the older brother does in the picture and stop any young, still learning, jws even think about hearing both sides of the argument. If you do this Jehovah's heart will be glad and he might not kill you at Armageddon (which is coming soon btw, probably next week but we aren't promising anything).
I'm glad im not going to be at the meeting when they study this because i know we'll spend a good 10 minutes listening to the dumbest comments about the obviously staged photograph like it's from a newspaper.

Supreme Court ruling- refusing to photo gay wedding is discrimination
by SadElder inaccording to bloomberg news:.
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-04-07/wedding-photographer-rebuffed-by-top-court-on-same-sex-ceremony.
"the u.s. supreme court turned away an appeal from a new mexico wedding photographer found to have violated a state anti-discrimination law when she refused to take pictures of a commitment ceremony for a same-sex couple.. the photographer, elaine huguenin, argued unsuccessfully that she was being unconstitutionally forced to convey a message conflicting with her religious beliefs.

wearewatching i feel like that's unfair to make that comparison between the two scenarioes (scenarios?).
If someone who was poor but had enough money to pay for something was refused service anyway just for being poor then yeah that's discrimination.

lambsbottom 3 things i want to say in response to what you said
1. My point was that i see no reason why it was exclusively hetrosexual in the first place and that just saying "that's how it's always been" isn't really a reason for not allowing it to be for gay couples today.
2. Is upholding the definition of a word really that important? Like when you think about everything else we could and should be worrying about?
In fact...the dicitonary definition you provided doesn't have to be read as strictly hetrosexual
"a. The condition of being a husband or wife; the relation between persons married to each other(notice it doesnt say between a man and a woman); matrimony." If this is really up to date this might be because same sex mariiage is becoming more common nowadays.
3. There already is a same-sex version of marriage (over here in the UK at least, called civil unions) but the problem is that you're effectively saying that same sex marriage doesn't deserve to be given the same recognition.
Same sex marriage was legalised over here not that long ago and i can honestly say that nothing has changed.
