Aha, those darn people issues. That stumbled my husband as well.
For active believing JWs: How would you feel if:

Before you recover, check to see if you tripped over a pearl of great price. You never know.

Honesty
Defd, the reason Jw's act the way they do towards one another is because they are following the example of the WTBTS.
Just a thought for you to meditate on:
Religion is man's attempt to reach God.
Christianity is God's attempt to reach man.

I just want to know how it has been proven that the WTS is lying? I seem to be missing something here. Isn't everything they teach confirmed in the Bible?

Newbie in the house!
Hello rachgurl,
Welcome to the board. You may not have realized this but most of us here are exjws or nonjws, with a smattering of jws to even us out.
Pull up a chair and prepare to be amazed

Hi rachgurl, and welcome.
Stick around for a while, you'll get all the proof you need, if thats what you are really looking for.

Welcome rachgurl
Well yes and no to answer your question.
The reality is that the WTS has gone back and forth on so many of their teachings that it is sometimes hard to keep up with all the teachings.
What the Bible teaches is actually pretty simple. Jesus said it was simple. But the JWs had taken the Bible apart and taken bits and pieces of it and pieced it together to make it say what they want it to say.
They have also been very dishonest with their own members in not telling them that they edit the books once the teachings change. The WT and AW that you get in the bound volumes or on the CD is often very different in essential teachings than those teachings were when the magazine comes out. They do the same with the books as well.
I know I was shocked when I found out about the editing changes. I trusted the WT to be honest anf they weren't. They will often encourage people to get rid of their old literature and replace it with bound volumes or CDs so the members won't find out what they have done. It winds up being very manipulative - something I never expected to see

Rachgurl, perhaps you remember that in the late teens and early 1920’s the GB told us that the exact year 1925 was to be viewed as the date when Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old would return. They were brimming with confidence about this year, using adverbs like "definitely" and "clearly". The rank and file became excited. Let me remind you how they put it in the pages of the premier journal, the Watchtower (WT) and that popular Millions booklet?
"There will be no slip-up...Abraham should enter upon the actual possession of his promised inheritance in the year 1925 A.D." WT 10/15/1917, p. 6157.
"Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old...". Millions Now Living Will Never Die, 1920, PP. 89-90.
"...1925 shall mark the resurrection of the faithful worthies of old...". Millions, p. 97.
"1925 is definitely settled by the Scriptures...the Christian has much more upon which to base his faith than Noah had (so far as the scriptures reveal) upon which to base his faith in a coming deluge." WT 4/1/1923, p. 106.
"The year 1925 is a date definitely and clearly marked in the Scriptures, even more clearly than that of 1914." WT 7/15/1924, p. 211.
It’s a foregone conclusion that the resurrection didn’t happen as "definitely" as they said it would. In fact, it didn’t happen the next year -- or the next. What they had said was an obvious error, a mistake. But that’s not my point. It’s what they then said the very next year. To me that tells volumes of their character. Was it an apology, an admission of error, a retraction? None of the above. Their spokesman, Joseph F. Rutherford, the main man at that time, was asked a question in reference to those earlier Watchtower predictions, while attending a convention in Basel, Switzerland.
Question: Have the ancient worthies returned?
Answer: "Certainly they have not returned. No one has seen them, and it would be foolish to make such an announcement. It was stated in the ‘Millions’ book that we might reasonably expect them to return shortly after 1925, but this was merely an expressed opinion; besides it is still shortly after 1925..." WT 1926, p. 196.
"...merely an expressed opinion"? Rutherford turned some of the most explicit date forecasts I’ve seen into some vague disclaimers -- all in one lying breath. I know, he was somewhat bitter at that reporter for having asked such a barbed question, but what did he expect -- a rave review? That, rachgurl, was not honest -- and my momma told me something about lies that your momma probably told you. There are honest mistakes but there are no honest lies.
