Here was an email that was literally sent to hundred's of JW's(hehe...yes, I have all of their emails now...muah ha ha) **edited to remove email addresses**

    >>Hi,
    >>There was an announcement at Bethel today regarding our brothers
    >>who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. On Wednesday
    >>afternoon, four circuit overseers and a local Regional Building
    >>Committee brother were allowed by the authorities to enter New
    >>Orleans as representatives of the organization. Though the reports
    >>are very incomplete, so far it appears that 23 Kingdom Halls in the
    >>New Orleans area have received heavy damage. Eight are completely
    >>submerged, and another two partially submerged. However, only the
    >>west side of New Orleans could be assessed by these brothers. Some
    >>brothers who had taken shelter in the Super dome have been
    >>transported by bus the Houston Astrodome. One Kingdom Hall in the
    >>city of Empire was completely destroyed. Another two Kingdom Halls
    >>in Bay St. Louis and Ocean Springs, Mississippi have also been
    >>completely destroyed. Arrangements have been made for 50 brothers
    >>to enter New Orleans next Monday to assess the damage to Kingdom
    >>Halls and homes. They will have a 24 hour window in which to make
    >>their assessment. The brothers also plan to make an aerial
    >>investigation of the area. Up to this point, it has been very
    >>difficult to determine the welfare of our brothers due to the many
    >>downed telephone lines and cell towers. Efforts are also being made
    >>to assess the damage in Mississippi. A relief committee will soon
    >>be set up to care for the needs of our brothers. It would be good
    >>for us to keep them in our prayers.

Actually, a relief effort by definition will include all affected, wouldn't it?

It is a relatively simply task to provide 'relief' for such a small percentage of the group. Kinda like going into any crowd and asking for all the people who are left handed, with one eye, and a birth mark that looks like a map of Sweden on one's ass, to please step forward so we can give you attention and help.

The hard task would be to ask for all those who are not left handed, with one eye, and a birth mark that looks like a map of Sweden on one's ass, to please step forward so we can give you attention and help.

To me it just shows how introverted the group has become. In a few week when all the others, whom they left at the Astrodome without aiding them, are in homes somewhere they will be knocking at their doors and wishing to share the 'good news'. Would that good news include love of others - or is it just about placing a damn magazine? Wow this whole conditional love pisses me off!

    I could see this happening.

The WBTS is outstanding when it comes to gathering its interests, be it people or real estate.

No doubt in my mind that JWs will do very well during these times of distress while others will struggle horribly through it.

JWs, specially the ones in 'good standing' do extremelly well during tough times. They stick together like glue!

Within minutes, the brothers had the PA systems going,

It's really hard to key the mic. It usually only takes a second...not minutes.

As if the Astrodome NEVER uses it's PA system...thank Dog that the Dubs saved the day...

and of course all the "other" religions are just a bunch of fuckin copy cats...

Well, yeah, it's a "good" idea I'd say... (what an afterthought! )

I wonder if all the JWs who left the dome are going to lose out on some federal assistance? I thought I read that those who took shelter in homes were not being considered (right now) for special cash assistance.

I can believe the Astrodome story up to a point. I'm sure that it has been embellished somewhat, but the gist of it is probably true.

On the surface, it is really neat that they were able to muster up relief efforts so quickly and go find those of their own faith and find them shelter/food/etc. in the local homes of others of like faith.

The downside to a story like that is that because of our being jaded as ex-JWs we tend to look for the negative in anything that the WTS does.

Being evacuees of sorts ourselves, evacuees of a crazy religion that is, we potentially see dastardliness in every move the WTS makes. The thing that stands out to me is that while it looks good on the surface and it really is a charitable thing to help the displaced JWs, I see an investment into the control factor. How grateful JWs will feel to the WTS and all the local JWs who helped them in this hour of darkness. It will seem to them as if Jehovah had a hand in their resuce and that thought will undoubtably be made aware to them by the WTS through the meetings and publications to follow.

I think it's good that the WTS/JWs were able to help their own....it's the aftermath, or, the payback, that will be hell to deal with.

I basically says: "We used our superior organization skills to take of only JWs, and got them out of the Astrodome ASAP. We then left everyone else to fend for themselves, because our Christian Love only extends to fellow JWs"

I agree, even though it was nice of them to help the witnesses, why not stick around and help everyone else to? Isnt that what "brotherly love" is all about? Wouldnt that have made them look good in the worldly peoples eyes? Makes me ill!

buttlight i am sure they helped some worldly people . The bible does say to help your fellow worshippers

Hey, at least they're helping some people!

Any help, however little, is afterall help and better than nothing.

    Just another thought.

    Frin Hell and Back?

Can you imagine the family who is standing there, awaiting help and then some brother whipsers to the elders not to help them because they are on the black list at the local hall. Or worse, they go home with some JWs, only to have the elders come in for a visit. Then the elders tell them they have to find another place to go since they are spiritually weak and therefore pose a huge threat to the host family and the local cong.

Do you think it ever happened that there were Witnesses floating by on a an airboat, and there was a weak member of their congregation and they refused to pick them up? Scary..
