Mary they bombed a tourist area. One where westerners vacation. Yes they did kill more Egyptians than they probably hoped for. But they also do not like Mubarak for his pro-western support either.
Classing all muslims into a neat little box makes it easy to assign blame to all of them. Would you say as a Christian web sites like www.godhatesfags.com speaks for you? Or Waco, TX whack jobs speak for all Americans?

Katie Kitten, I was concerned about the Iraqi / Afgahn civilians before the UK was attacked. I just get a feeling of helplessness, unable to do anything for these people.

Thing is, these terrorists aren't just killing those involved in the slaughter of their civilians, or the governments that are destroying their way of life, they are killing ordainary people.

Maybe it's not a World War III from our standpoint, maybe it is from theirs.

Truth....when you are poverty struck and cannot hit a $ 50 million stealth fighter guess what. They will fight back with the means necessary.
The word terrorist is a nice little word we summarily use on a force who's tactics we disagree with. History is full of terrorists. If terrorists are on our side we call them "freedom fighters". Opposing sides....terrorists. Nothing new really.

    Oh brother,

The roots of modern terrorism lie entirely in Islamic extremism. Lets not glob any pet issues on to it shall we? The idea that big bad, wealthy, western countries have been exploiting poor third world countries and now are getting their just deserts is pure fantasy. While there are plenty in the world who despise G8 countries for those very reasons, these terrorists are not one of them. They are fairly vocal about their beliefs and justifications for terrorism - have you read what they believe?

There are many factors that breed these modern terrorists, and it can never be pinpointed on any one source. It is irresponsible to deny the American support of Israel and the tol that the fight between Israel and Palestine has taken on both sides. The jihadist muslim world needs something to pinpoint their hatred at, even though a lot of it comes from their own irrational beliefs and a hundred other reasons. There will always be "terrorists" in a world that relies more on blaming than problem solving. The only way to end this is to educate people in the real world. In the meantime it's better to protect our own country rather than step on many other feet to give irrational people something to be mad at. Education is the only means to truly make these numbers smaller, but of course that's terribly hard to do. But in my opinion (this should be taken as a grain of salt), it's better not to step on the snapping turtle's toe, there's already plenty of snakes that we're dealing with.

    How modern are we talking?
The terrorist "zealots" against the Roman empire?
The 1605 failed Gundpowder Plot to blow up England's Parliament?
Or the 12 people killed in 1886 in Chicago during a labor rally at Haymarket Square?
1920 Wall Street bombing that killed 40?
1956 FLN bombing of AirFrance offices?
1971 UVF bombing in Belfast McGurk's bar?
1972 Bloody Friday or the Lod's Massacre by the Japanese Red Army?
1973 Basque ETA group bombing the Rolando cafeteria?
1978 to 1995 The Unabomber kills 3 and injures 29?
1980's death squads in El Salvador?
Aug. 2nd 1980 Neo Fascist bombing killing 80 in Bologna?
1983 North Korean Rangoon bombing killed 21?
1985 Mass murders of health care workers in Nicaragua?
1994 Buenos Aires bombing killing 86?
The list goes on and on and on.....for a full list try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terrorist_incidents
Islamist extremists are not the only terrorists.

    Pole is getting warmer...

I sometimes wonder if these people funding the insurgency really believe all that religious b.s. True, they have their mullahs and imams to help indoctrinate the younger ones into suicide attacks, but yes, this is all a "smokescreen." The religious conotations on all these attacks are bogus. Iraq is a Muslim country, yes. Practicing, no.

It's funny to watch how these young people try to participate in attacks who haven't been indoctrinated fully. They are seriously let down when the payday does not come, and they wind up in jail.

Funny, this stuff rings a familiar bell. Large quantities of money, indoctrination, being let down. Sounds like the BORG, but on a much larger and more intense scale.

"al quaeda" is just a buzz word the media picked up, and now i think some unknown terrorist groups borrow it to make their case bigger. some (totalitarian) regimes like the US need those invisible, unknown, allways present enemies to wage war on. once it was the communists or "the wise of zion" or the freemasons or whatever. now it's the muslims or "al quaeda".

there's really nothing special about our days except that we live in it.

    ps: pole, you're into manowar?

    Took his land and fortune,
    Left him to die...

It has the potential to degenerate into a religious war. Look back at such threads a year ago and the muslim community was hardly mentioned. If these attacks continue to be perpetrated by muslim extremists, which we cannot identify, many countries might opt for the option of asking muslims to return to their country of origin and /or accept to be monitored. It will be the only sure way to avoid these attacks. This of course would only add fuel to the fire and create more extremists who will now feel persecuted. Only one serious attack in the US by these people and the concept of big brother will be fully put in operation.

It might not be WW3, but it sure doesn't look good.
