"There's never been a weapon invented that wasn't used."Yes, Germany had invented quite a few weapons that never saw action. They were invented towards the end of the war. In other words, the US and its allies would have had to fight against a more technologically advanced Germany/Axis powers had the war not ended then.
I didn't say (as per that little "truism" I quoted) that the nation that invented a weapon ended up being the nation that actually used it; just that every weapon that has ever been invented has been used.
Name one biological weapon that hasn't been used, somewhere.
Name one chemical weapon that hasn't been used, somewhere.
Name one mechanical weapon that hasn't been used, somewhere.
Name one nuclear weapon that hasn't been used, somewhere.
Perhaps laser and neutron beam weapons haven't yet been used...time will tell.

They are already for targetting weapons - they are also part of the Star Wars system being developed

STILLAJWEXELDER SAID: Yes scientists invent the bomb - then they sign a petition against it...................................................................(Sorry for poor paragraphing but Opera browser doesn't work too well on this site)Yes, they did. I'm not sure if your saying that because they invented the thing they therefore have no right to say it shouldn't be used? For me that would be a rather strange argument. But anyway, heres a paragraph from the Frank Report(1945): "One may point out that the scientists themselves have initiated the development of this "secret weapon" and it is therefore strange that they should be reluctant to try it out on the enemy as soon as it is available. The answer to this question was given above - the compelling reason for creating this weapon with such speed was our fear that Germany had the technical skill necessary to develop such a weapon without any moral constraints regarding its use.............................................................................Documents relating to the atomic bomb decision, including the Frank report, can be seen here: http://www.dannen.com/decision/index.html

BRENDACOULTIER: No one fully understood the short- mid- and long-term consequences of such a weapon i.e. flash burns, radiation poisoning, cancers, deformed births, and so on........................................................................................................................................Maybe not. But they did seem to understand something. This 1945 test report shows concern that a family 20 miles from the blast site might have been exposed to dangerous levels of radiation: http://www.dannen.com/decision/trin-rad.html

Haveing only read the first page of this thread I would like to interject the idea:
What if the USA just dropped the bomb off the coast of japan instead of on two cities, that way they could avioded loss of innocent civilians, and shown the Japanese rulers enough to get them to surrender. As been said before in this thread the Japanese were ready to surrender before the bomb was dropped, it was just that the USA wanted a complete surrender that would be very hard to comply with.

Actually if you think about it, alot of those that feel the USA did the right thing in dropping the bomb on Japan, would feel completely different if they had parents that lived in Japan at the time, or that had close Japanese friends living there durring the war, or could have seen first hand the destruction to human life the bomb caused. It all depends on if we can get our minds think of other countries the same way we think about our own, or how much value we put on the life of someone of a different race or culture.
