the diane gabaldon series is great. i have them all and read them over and over.
i've read the first 3 kay scarpetta books.. they were good enough that i may read another.
i love humor and my favorite romantic comedy books are the viking series by sandra hill.. i laugh my behind off reading those.

I think I read all Victoria Holt's books. She wrote under three names, including Phillippa Carr, Jean Plaidy and Eleanor Hibbert (I think that was her real name).
I can't remember the names of the books but the Phillippa Carr books were a series, starting in the middle ages and going almost to modern times, tracking the daughters of one family from generation to generation. She died before she got to our time. The last one was WW2 era. One title I remember is The Lion Triumphant. I think it was the second book.
