My intelligence-hero is Einstein. I know this sounds cliche, but he really is.

Einstein was brilliant because he engaged in thought-play. From the time he was a small boy, he just wondered out loud about things. It's amazing how much he discovered just by thinking about ordinary things, playing with the concepts, toying with how things might work out. As an example, it's possible to prove logically that light must bend just by imagining a beam of light coming out of a flashlight in a falling elevator, in super-slow-motion, from multiple perspectives.

Einstein's playfulness led him to amazing discoveries and also protected him (with some exceptions) from the rigidity of thought that people sometimes acquire as they age. To me, Einstein represents the perfect wizened old man, sage but silly. This is the kind of intelligence I most wish to imitate.

P.S. But, I hope to have better emotional intelligence than old Einie. :-)
