I am confused do I just miss the point of religion? You have a person shopping around they find a few goofy docterines that are obviously a lark and some hair brained policies. Now if she can check JWs and SB off her list what does she want? Why bother with a religion? I am not say I expect every one to join those churches.

But I am trying to figure out what do people want these days. It seems that She does not want lesbian preachers nor temperance nor nonsense. What is left? WHat do "normal" people want in their religion because most come with come restriction or strange/ irrational belief. Mostly because the bible is horribly written.

you represent the worst nightmare of jw and the organization, for you unlike us have at your fingertip the entire 130yr history and track record of the jw- something that my mom didnt have in 1968 when she started studing

i grewup a jw , was a Pioneer, went to Bethel served as an Elder and gave talks at all the summer conventions and yet there were issues and questions i could not ask without being viewed as a traitor or spiritually weak

i only wish that i had the same opportunity that you have before you right now

i see no need to try and convince you , the long paper trail of the wt will do that

in fact the wt paper trail history is their worst enemy

do me one favor - READ READ READ AND ASK YOURSELF AS YOU READ- Does this sounds like something from God who NEVER GETS SOMETHING WRONG

you see the wt teaches that their publications are to be viewed as FOOD FROM GOD- well go look at the information that they claim is food from god for yourself

    TO THINK MEANS:

I PERFER TO HAVE QUESTIONS I CAN'T ANSWER, RATHER THAN QUESTIONS I CAN'T ASK- or answers i can't question

Mannnnnnn, don't know if Scooby is around or not.......but HI! and welcome to our Friendly Forum

Btw, we're a Free People, so we can fuss, fume, discuss, and hijack all the time....and do.

Congratulations for checking out BEFORE making a committment to Jehovah's Witnesses.....so much smarter than me! After committing......even to question outloud, particularily for a lowly woman, is forbidden. lol - unless you're home alone.

I'm a non-active jw woman of 30 years, had a Bible Study with them for 3 yrs, before committing...and all a Bible Study is - is an indoctrination of their beliefs.

And yes, my child was also sexually abused by a Ministerial Servant, the elders knew, and the WTBTS said "Back off" and they did. The man, until his death many years later, was free to touch and roam thruout the KH....and he did. Oh, his grown daughter also wrote the elders that he had been incestually having sex with her for many years. The elders DID NOTHING and the Watchtower Society KNEW.

The elders told me this, btw, as I knew the Presiding Elder for many years.

I'm soooooooooooo glad to be free to ask, think, learn, whatever I want. Keep your freedom & your family's freedom.

Good Luck! (I can say this now with a "clear conscience!")

You know what I find amusing? How Jesus spoke to large groups of people, and was able to impress them. Then you get one JW on this board, they are made a fool of, then they run off with their tail between their legs.

JWs can't impress very many people. They don't have the one true religion.

I presume that comment was directed to me? I checked and I don't seem to have a tail between my legs, but thanks for helping reveal the attitude of many here.

Hey.....ya'll fuss, argue, and hijack all you want. I'm the new one. I just asked a couple questions. Glad I did. I know there are many opinions out there on the topic. And I think being that we are all adults, we can agree to disagree. I know some seem very passionate about their stance and that is ok in my book. We all have experiences in life and that affects our feelings on certain issues. I certainly would not dream of begrudging someone their feelings if they differ from mine. I appreciate that there are some JW's ( I hope that term is not offensive) that are trying to give their side as well. But I have to say my mind is made up. There are just too many things that I am not convinced of and that I would just never agree with. I can not be part of a religion that does not encourage growth and asking questions. Or questioning it's leaders.

As to the question about what kind of religion I am looking for. I am looking for a religion that teaches God's word. God's word as it was intended, not what they interprate it to be. Which, I know, is next to impossible since the book has been written and rewritten so many times. The problem I have with the Southern Baptists is that they preach 80% of the time about money. Out of a month, at least 3 Sunday sermons would be on how you have to tithe, and you aren't tithing enough. I grew up in a church and watched the pastors kids (all five) wear name brand clothes when my single mom tithed an tithed and tithed and we word cloths from Family Dollar. And she workd constantly to make sure she could make ends meet and still tithe. You ever seen the Baptist shows on TV? How much gold and fake hair do those people need to spread God's word? I sat in a church service in where the congregation ( in front of children) confronted the pastor while he was on the pulpit about his affair with a woman from the congregation. So the woman who was a known drug user, stood up and condemed him, while the lady in the other pue who had been married 5 times stood up and chimed in with her two cents.........it was the closest thing to a stoning I have ever witnessed. I want a church where my relationship with God is more important that the money I give. Where learning about God's word is more important than how many Sunday's you do or don't make it to church. I dont want to have to become a "member" of a church and sign papers stating that I will uphold their mission state yadda yadda. Since when did you have to sign up to belive in Jesus and know that he died to save our lives? While I have been studying with the JW's, I have learned so much. Aside from their beliefs. There are books of the bible that I never even knew existed because as a Southern Baptist, they never went to. If it doesn't support tithing, not drinking, not having sex, or the crusifiction and resurection, the Baptist don't preach it. I learned more about the bible and read the bible more in the last four months than I did for the 20 years I was in the Southern Baptist religion. And not once when I went to Kingdom Hall did I have a plate passed in front of me to give money and then be preached to guilt about not giving. I won't tithe to a church. Because I don't know how they are using that money. I give to God through other means. I donate to charity's, or I give to individuals. Is it 10% of my income, probably not.....slap me on the wrist and send me to hell.

    Nosferatu -

I don't think any JWs claim to be as good as Jesus. And Shadow has continued this discussion on another thread.

You made the right decision, scoob. And if you ever need more convincing, just keep studying with them, LOL! They tend to mask the hard questions by never really answering them and 'getting to them later' kind of attitude. At least that's what happened when I studied.

I will never forget watching a W5 prgogramme (in Canada) about Disfellowshipping. I nearly quit the study right then and there, but they convinced me that they really were doing them a 'favour' and you need to be so unrepentant to become 'disfellowshipped'... more than I would ever know.

Complete hogwash, as I found out years later.

One young person got DF'd for something in our congo... first problem, went to the elders, no if and's or but's DF. His family was not in 'the troof' and I would pick him up for meetings on occasion. Of course the elders didn't give a shit about how this kid got to or from meetings, because he had no car. I was the one that suggested it.

You will never know the amount of heartache that I went through in this 'loving' religion. I can say, though, they told me not to get help for my depression. Just lean on Jehovah. Well, problem is, Jehovah does not correct chemical imbalances. When I got the help I needed, I saw right through the B.S. and was outta there.

I have never ever looked back... well, except for being an addicted poster on this board. (my problem)

was always at odds in my mind with what I was being taught. I was made to feel that good Christians go to church three days a week. They don't swear, they don't drink, and if you do you best repeeeeeeeeeent or burn in hell. I was terrified of God.
