First of all, stop talking to me like you are a condescending little queen

Yes oh master of all things concerning knowledge. Ye who knows everything of everything, the Alpha and the Omega of grocery facts.

You may have worked for albertson's but you still don't know what you are talking about.

So I dont agree with you so I dont know what im talkinga about. Suuuuure. I guess Albertsons is closed at night on Sundays? How about that double holliday pay???

Those companies are not going bankrupt and they will not go bankrupt anytime soon. That is a load of crap and an excuse. The grocery chains were doing a fine job of cutting labor costs before the negotiation of the new contract.

    Some key facts:

    1) Traditional grocery stores have a net profit margin <1% of total sales. Which is HORRIBLE. There is no room to cut back.

    2) Traditional grocery stores are losing sales to Costco, Walmart, Sams Club, Super Kmarts etc... where they can buy Home Goods and Groceries at the same time.

    3) Costco, Walmart, Sams Club, Super Kmarts, etc... have no unions. Their labor costs are lower which means that they can price their goods lower. Vons, Krogens, Albertsons, etc.. cannot compete with big store prices.

In the future, the only niche for conventional grocery stores will be small towns and other areas that do not have the purchasing pull for the bigger stores.

How exactly, are they doing that?

Well when Bobby is making $10 and hour and the Union comes in and all of the sudden he is making $14, I would call that artificial inflation. His job didnt change.

OH really? what sort of union? why are you still in? Why are you a hypocrite?

Why am I still in? Can your wife leave the union! *lol* Since when did you have an option to leave the Union (besides quiting)? I am in Local whatever whatever take money out of your pay check, not represent you, not tell you about votes, increase fees for doing nothing, then hires people that support the union to work for the union, you cant change that lightbulb that an electricians job, dont move that computer thats the computers departments job go fill out a work request. Just your typical union. So im a hypocrite for being part of a Union because I cant get out of it? That makes sense. And here we were thinking you knew what you were talking about.

I recall watching Mary go through lots and lots of training and certification to do what she does at night. What the hell are you talking about? Are you also saying that in 25 years, and after 25 years, she has NOT earned her 6.00 in raises?

No im saying that people should not be paid $17.90 an hour to go *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* a job that can be done by a minimum wage worker or these days an automatic machine. What is she going to do when they put RFID tags on all the food? All you will have to do is drive the cart through and it will automatically ring EVERYTHING up. If she's been there 25 years she needs to be in Managment, open up her own store, or become a consultant. Maybe work for the Union? Checker's days are coming to an end.

Yeah, LOL, ever notice how little those self-checkouts are used? Look at the difference in the lines at the check out.

More and more people are using them. And like I stated previously, when RFID tags are put in use (like Walmart has now implemented) checkout time will be instant! No more CHECKERS.

A Walmart employee who makes next to nothing does the exact same job as a $17.90 checker at Albertsons.

I look forward to your dissertation.

    here is a good summary.

"Trickle-down" or Reagan-omics - by whatever name, ONLY WORKS FOR THOSE NEAR THE TOP OF THE TRICKLE.

Michael, obviously you have never run a business, or have been totally brainwashed by liberal economics professors.

As a son of an entrepenuer in the 80s, I personally saw how trickle down works.

Our restaurant was in a town with a tourist based economy. Prior to Reaganomics, our business was bad. People having to pay higher taxes had less disposbale income. They did not travel as far away from home. Our business income was hurt, and we had to cut hours, and even let people go.

During the height of Reaganomics, less taxes. The people that had more money to spend because of their newly lowered tax rate decided to travel more. Or perhaps go into business, and make more money. These people went on vacations to my old home town and spent money. They needed to eat while there, and so we had more demand, so we were able to rehire the people we were forced to let go, and also increase the hours of those that hed their hours cut back.

We were also able to offer more benefits to our employees, ie. healthcare, dental, vision. We had a very progressive company. Now since our employees had more money, because our business was making more money and because our patrons were making more money, our employees could do things that they couldn't do prior to Reagan-omics. They bought cars, houses, things like that.

So you see Michael, one dinky little restaurant in a two-horse tourist town was a prime benefactor of trickle-down economics. Which works, and why the USSR and Economic Socialism in general, is now relegated to the trash dump.

    THANK YOU, COME AGAIN!

Can't get out of the union? *lol*. Why don't you go back to school? Follow your own advice you self-righteous bloat-bag.

My complaint is with people who think they've mastered economics (and politics for that matter) because they understand the basic thought behind the words "trickle-down economics". It's not a system, it's-just-what-happens in life (hell, it happens even in non-democratic systems, just not as efficiently for as many people). And as it happens, good things can and will trickle down, but then again, so will shit. It's not just a concept that applies to money, it applies to pretty much everything in life. Then again, as I read the comments, I realize some people who use the term the most, are quite confused about what it is. I guess if you heard the term in the same speach as you heard some other economic concept, you can mix them at will.
