Thank you six, for your typically condescending lack of response.

But for the record I do not think I have mastered anything, most of the time I'm learning.

What I do know is that it worked. Whether or not you believe it, well that is up to you.

Must be nice to poor Corvin. He's about to be replaced by a machine.

Machine? U mean like the hand-held jobber you use for sex?

Again, you were not listening. I do not work for a grocery chain; my wife does.

No I heard you. Nothing against your wife, but If you believe that someone should make $17.90 an hour for *beep* *beep* *beep* then youre as dumb as a rock and will be replaced by a machine.

Alright, 151. Just to be fair, what is your union job, why can't you get out of it, and why don't you go back to school and learn something like you have previously advised others to do?

"*beep* *beep* *beep*" is just your way of saying, "I got nothing else".

    Corvin,

I work in the computer dept for the local County Govt and my job classification was recently reclassified as a union position. The best part of the reclassification was that 'we' voted for it. There was a nice union vote to see if 'we' wanted to become part of the union. The funny thing was that no-one knew about the vote. Only 10% of those affected voted and of that 10% only 51% voted for the Union! What a sham! How might you ask did the rest of us find out about this 'vote'? Well, we got a nice letter saying that they were going to start taking our Union fees out of our checks (Automaticly of course!). Amazing how we cant get a letter about the Vote but sure as shit we can get a notice about how they are taking our money. The Board of Supervisors wont touch it because its an 'employee' issue. So its one big cluster.

Now dont get me wrong, like I said before I dont dislike ALL Unions. I just think the majority of Unions are a barrier that prevent businesses from running properlly. Job Classifications lead to "Thats not my job", "I cant do that", "You need to talk to so and so", basicly- let me pass the buck. Rotton, worthless people cannot get fired (they just get promoted or transfered). You ever wonder why the Govt is so slow?? Its the Union crap! Same thing with the State. It is extremely hard to get fired from the Govt. We had a guy clogging up the entire network because he was printing out Porn on the Color Printer. Did they fire him? Nope. Just took away his internet for a bit.

I did my best to start a Union at Napa Autoparts when I worked there at a distribution center because the Management was F-in everybody over. The working conditions were unsafe and I called OSHA on them. They did many, many questionable things. Scare tactics were common. "If you form a Union we will shut this place down and you will all lose your jobs!" A total bunch of BS. But thats another story.

But in General: Unions are a waste. They increase the cost of labor. They reduce production. They make it harder for businesses to compete with non-union competitors. They create another layer of BS between management and workers. They make it hard to get rid of problem employees while at the same time preventing the rewarding of good employees. And lets not forget their history of corruption.

Ahhh why am I still in my Union job. Well basicly, im just waiting to get deployed. Why leave for another job when im going to be gone in a couple weeks? As far as education, im working on my MBA.

Thanks, 151, for sharing your experience with us, sincerely.

Your experiences with unions is unique to me, and I have not witnessed the same tactics with regard to the union my wife is under in her job. While I do agree that unions are becoming very ineffective anymore, they have served a valuable purpose with respects to safety and fair wages. Again, you must realize that NOT EVERYONE working for the grocery chains makes 17.90 per hour, and those who do, are busting their asses, as my wife does, only on a parttime basis, stocking shelves and entering correct price changes. For the kind of work Mary does, 17.90 is fair. She actually does the work of two men each night that she works and she deserves a helluva lot more.

Should some that are receiving 17.90 get canned and/ or be demoted? sure, for they are bad employees. For the most part, grocery chain employees are very industrious and hardworking, and the earn every penny the receive. The quality of wage not only allows them to pay their bills, but encourage them to do better work and take pride in their work. When the grocery chains go the way of Walmart, customer service and customer relations will suffer greatly and I don't think they have taken into account how that will effect a portion of their business. If it is how things are going to, we all have no choice and will ultimately have to bite the bullet and move on.

I don't agree with everything the unions do and or stand for, and neither do I appreciate where the grocery chains want to take us, but I think it is fair to speak truthfully and tell the whole story with respects to what the grocery employees are really earning, and what they have to do to earn it.

    Respectfully,

    Corvin
