Where can I send a contribution to Judas...he should have been paid more.
Read these lyrics to the song Judas sings when he visits the priests to return the blood money and then goes on to hang himself. Very powerful and possibly what he truly felt:
Judas
My God, I saw him
He looked three-quarters dead
And he was so bad
I had to turn my head
You beat him so hard
That he was bent and lame
And I know who everybody's
Going to blame
I don't believe he knows
I acted for our good
I'd save him all the suffering
If I could
Don't believe
Our good
Save him
If I could
Priest
Cut the confessions
Forget the excuses
I don't understand why
You're filled with remorse
All that you've said
Has come true with a vengence
The mob has turned against him
You've backed the right horse
Caiaphas
What you have done
Will be the saving of Israel
You'll be remembered forever
For this
And not only that
You've been paid for your efforts
Pretty good wages
For one little kiss
Judas
Christ!
I know you can't hear me
But I only did what you wanted me to
Christ!
I'd sell out the nation
For I have been saddled
With the murder of you
I have been spattered
With innocent blood
I should be dragged
Through the slime and the mud
I have been spattered
With innocent blood
I should be dragged
Through the slime and the mud
I don't know how to love him
I don't know why he moves me
He's a man
He's just a man
He's not a king
He's just the same
As anyone I know
He scares me so!
When he's cold and dead
Will he let me be?
Does he love me too?
Does he care for me?
Ohhhhh...
My mind is darkness now
My god I am sick
I've been used
And you knew
All the time
God I'll never ever know
Why you chose me for your crime
For your foul bloody crime
You have murdered me!
You have murdered me!
So long, Judas Poor old Judas
When I was young I couldn't figure out why God hated people who ''burned their children in the fire'' and sacrificed them; but he did the same thing? So how could Christianity be based on human sacrifice?
What would have happened if Judas backed out and didn't go through with it? Did god have a backup plan?
Thirdson,
My thoughts entirely:
One point Gumby makes always troubled me as a JW. If God knew that one disciple, namely Judas, would betray Jesus how much free choice did Judas have? If by his very nature he was destined to be the betrayer and a betrayer was needed in order to fulfill prophecy how could Judas be condemned for all eternity? To me it always seemed that Judas was devasted by his actions and killed himself in remorse, almost as if events turned out not the way he expected. That said, I always felt that Pilate's hand was forced as well and that he was coerced into having Jesus executed.
Strange, isn't it! Nothing's changed. The Borg claims it has the truth - and many of its members commit suicide.

Well considering that the bible is great book on myth making, anything is possible.
Have any of you read Burton Macks, or Elaine Pagels books, or the other multitude of thought by other bible scholars?
I found after leaving the JW and realizing it is bogus, and the Governing Body have no authority at all, that perhaps the bible needed to be investigated. Well what I discovered along the way certainly changed my view points.

Same here!

Judas could not possibly back out because his future was already known by god and the deed was as good as done. That's like asking "what if Jesus had fallen off a cliff and died before he was crucified"?
