I am shocked by the heavy handed way this turned out! The sad truth is the more petty and insecure the person, the harsher their retaliation! Can you be transferred within the BOE? Be careful talking about litigation. Once that beast is let out of its cage you lose what little control you had in this situation. At that point you are just along for the ride and its a long, ugly and rocky road. And in the end you might be the one eaten! If you need anything PM me and I'll see what I can do! Maverick

    Sunny,

Perhaps there's another lawyer that can come along with you to the BOE meeting. You don't want this on your employment history, about you being fired and the reasons. Come prepared to hunt BEAR!

The press may indeed be an asset. I just don't see how you could get fired for saying "You don't respect your boss". She's a law breaker, she endangered children on those busses. And WHY, wasn't she reported to the police to be ticketed, why didn't the person who watches the traffic turn her in...perhaps because, the Supt. has created a 'hostile' work environment? Where people are unable and afraid to do their jobs...? Because, they fear retribution from their bosses...?

Good questions that should be put to HER !

Yes.. I too thought this was all over and done with.....

but looks like all come back again.

Maybe a new job would be the best thing. It doesn't sound like they will ever leave this to rest.

    sincerely

    Terri,

I worked in a couple of unionized shops, that's why I'm so shocked by this. There should be a book of rules, spelled out VERY CLEARLY. They would outline the exact procedures involved in termination. Neither of the unions I belonged to would allow this to happen to a member.

Sounds very fishy to me ... is the union affiliated with a bigger, more powerful one? Maybe you need to go 'over the heads' of your president and shop steward.

Don't forget that YOU PAY DEARLY for this organization to PROTECT YOU. (nah, I'm not mad)

    good luck

So far, she's been able to skirt the union issues by just following the guidelines. Just to let you all know, if I didn't say this yet..........I'm soooo emotionally goofy right now, I can't remember what I've written about.........my two immediate superiors, one the Asst. Super. of Business and Trans. and one the head of Finance, both recommended written reprimand and 1 day suspension. She hasn't followed their suggestion. She's on Big Mama Auto-Drive seek out and destroy any dissenters, no matter how minor. According to the union, they will be behind me and fight for me............I asked about a lawyer, and the UP didn't get back to me yet, but I have the US cell phone number and personal home number. I can chat with her this weekend, suggest someone anonymously alert the press............her brother is the Mayor of the town I work in..........don't know if she can ask for his help in this, since, technically, the BOE operates from taxpayer's dollars. Someone suggested that some unions have their own lawyers on staff, for their people.......I'm not sure this one does. This is the first time I've ever worked for a place with a union and I am very well aware how much they take out of my paycheck...........and I made a reference to it back after the first meeting.

Mav, you are sooo kind, thank you. As far as the litigation "beast", I know what you're talking about. There has already been one ugly litigation amongst HR and the guy won his case..........BOE dished out much denairo to him. I've sat and thought, tho, and what am I supposed to do? If they would give me unemployment, I would gladly tell them so long. I would gladly walk away if I was able to forgo reliance on that paycheck. I'm not the kind who can stomach alot of conflict and confrontation. I bawled thru the whole first meeting.........I know I've got to take action, get my resume updated.........I've worked for temp services before, I was their employee before I got the job at the BOE, so I have a good name with them and can always go back.

. And WHY, wasn't she reported to the police to be ticketed, why didn't the person who watches the traffic turn her in...

The bus company called ME. I work in the transportation department. That is how I found out about what she did. They called me and asked ME what they should do. I told them they needed to call my boss and let him handle it. They swept the incident under the rug.

I'm so sorry about this. Think of this as a minor setback in your career and a learning experience.

This is one of the things that make this whole thing so unbelievable! You showed remorse, you weren't arrogant, and took your "lumps" graciously! I am so surprised at how this turned out!!!

    You've had some excellent suggestions here, and I can't offer anything better.....except to send MY hugs along as well.....{{{{{Terri}}}}}

Dev, hon, thank you, but, this last year has been one of my unhappiest in my employment history. Yeah, the money is awesome, the benefits are good, but, I feel empty inside at the end of the day...........in the am, when it's time for me to get up, I sigh, groan, then remember I have to go to work..........the job is a mindless, thankless one. I can't tell you how hard it has become for me to muster any enthusiasm to go in everyday. The only thing that has been holding me there is the paycheck.
