OrphanCrow and jwundubbed, I take your comments and criticisms on board. I wasn't making a statistical analysis. My gut feeling was that there is an escalation in risk from an unarmed individual through to a mentally unstable individual armed with a gun.
I don't think I was disparaging of folks with mental illness, I sure hope that isn't how I came across.
