Islam is a religion of peace (2)

In behalf of the horrific events of Saturday night, I just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that Islam is a religion of peace. It doesn’t matter that the Quran explicitly says that homosexuals should be stoned to death (7:84) - it’s still a religion of peace. And it doesn’t matter that the scriptures say that all gay men should be killed (Sunan 1:152) - Islam doesn’t in anyway condone violence.

It doesn’t matter that every mainstream Imam calls homosexuality a sin "worse the adultery" - it’s not a religion of bigotry.

It doesn’t matter that 61% of Muslims in the UK think gay acts should be made illegal - Islam has nothing against the gay community.

It doesn’t matter that countries with Sharia Law actively persecute the LGBT community - Islam is all about peace and love. Nothing to see here. Everybody move along.

Don’t mind that in Dubai it’s a ten year prison sentence for being gay because of religious laws. Or that simply being gay in Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Algeria, Maldives, Malaysia, Qatar, Somalia and Syria is still illegal.

And whatever you do, don't bring up that because of Islam the LGBT community gets the DEATH PENALTY in countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Brunei, Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria, Sudan, and Yemen - just remember, Islam is still all about tolerance.

Etc. etc. ect . . . just listen to this Islamic scholar speaking in Orlando FL about how killing gays is "the compassionate thing to do." He sounds so polite when he says it - so it can't really be all that bad can it?

Islam has to do with the recent Orlando shootout the same way Christianity has to do withTim McVeigh's, Adam Lanza's, the Bundy crew of thugs', the Columbine shooters', the several abortion clinics shooters/boombers, etc., all of their actions.

Hate manifests itself regardless of the religious beliefs.

And while we're in the subject, different Islamic leaders have come out in public to denounce this latest crime. Can we, from this point forward, get Christian leaders to come out in public and denounce the crimes committed by people that call themselves Christians???

No, this sort of hate manifests itself because of the religious beliefs. The religious beliefs incite people to do these horrible things. And their actions are, in turn, justified because of their dogmatic faith in their religion.

When JWs let their children die because of the blood issue - we call out the RELIGION. We don't try to equivocate or say, "Well you know there are a lot of bad doctors out there and no wonder JWs don't trust modern medicine."

Islam should be held to the exact same standard! When Muslims are motivated to do horrific things by their religion we need to call out the RELIGION.

Islam is not a monolith. Lots of different Muslims believe lots of different things. And there's no way Islam is going to be reformed if we aren't actively calling out the bigotry, hatred, and intolerance far too many of its members perpetuate because of their dogmatic and iron age convictions.

We're not talking about crimes committed by people who happen to be Muslim. We're talking about mass murder being carried out in the name of ISLAM. There's a HUGE difference!
One is the actions of individuals acting of their own volitional. The other is individuals motivated by a specific religious ideology.

    It's the very SAME.

Anyone who identifies as a Christian or when we find out their family is Christian, or the person was raised under the Christian faith, let Christian leaders come out and denounce that the action of said 'Christian' criminal.

Start with the NRA and all the gun nuts. This will help more than just blaming a particular religion.

I think I missed a step, how will condemning the NRA get orthodox Islam to stop persecuting the LGBT community?

There is an enormous problem with Islam because its a totalitarian system much the same as communism and nazism. Muslims are told constantly they can exact islamic punishment themselves where ever they live regardless of the law of the land they have no respect for.

Here is Australia 50 years ago there were prison sentences for homosexuality and the state governments have apologised for their stand to homosexuals that were imprisoned. This position is now seen like the dark ages and some of the young generation just find it hard to believe.

Adam Lanza was mentally ill. The Orlando shooter behaved under religious impulse. He had clearance or public trust position according to news and there is no indication he was mentally ill. He justified his action with his religion. Not much different from SS who burned Slavic villages from Czech to Russia down to Serbia because their National Socialist ideology considered Slavs inferior.

I agree that there is a serious problem in relation to the rhetoric accompanying Islam.

However, personally, I think the issue in the USA is more about the lunacy of allowing the average citizen to own an assault rifle. An AR-15 assault rifle is not a practical weapon for home defence or for hunting. It is designed for killing a lot of people, quickly, and seems to be the weapon of choice used in a lot of mass murders, including this latest one.

Today, there are nutters justifying mass murder using the Koran. Tomorrow, it might be something completely different. In the past, various anarchist groups and others would have tried the same thing if the could have. If assault rifles were restricted, it would not stop such incidents, but it would make them harder to carry out, and with lower death tolls.
