Nikita, do you know how many doctors I've seen in the course of forty years with this problem? I'm content with knowing how to handle my migraines when it attacks me, I fight back.

I'm sorry, I thought you were looking for experiences and advice. Didn't mean to offend.

Guest, I too get migraines, but I wanted to reply to this thread for a different reason. What you said happens to you when you take aspirin is an allergic reaction. Usually people who say they are allergic to aspirin get stomach upset, that is not allergic. What you have is. So DO NOT take it again, the reaction can get more serious. I too am allergic to aspirin and have, over time, also developed allergies to it's chemical cousins ibuprofen and many of the anti-inflammatory drugs. Be careful if you take any of these, you may be able to tolerate them for a short while, but then have an allergic reaction to them as well. You should know what the allergic reactions all look like, as well, some include rapid heartbeat, clammy sweats, shortness of breath, etc. Just read up on them before taking them.

For my migraines I have tried many things over the years, but I'm hampered by the aspirin thing and can't do caffiene for another reason (also medical). Mine are triggered hormonally and also by seasonal allergies. I know when the seasonal allergies are due so I use a steroidal nasal spray to keep it in check and that has lessened the number of them I get.

Good luck with them. I may have to try the light thing.

    Hey Guest,

I must ask, are you a big breasted person?

My reason for asking is, I have not had a migraine now in 3 years...I use to get them alot, until I had a breast reduction...

I tryed changing my diet,Had the shots, tryed the nose sprays, pills, chiroprator.and even massege...nothing worked for me either...I would get them to the point that I would be throwing up and would cry at the site of any kind of light...After many trips to the speacialists, they suggested I have a redution....I was a little apprenensive about it at first, but I was running into brick walls, and I could not stand the sight of my BIG JUGS ,so to speak, any longer anyways.... if it ment i could kill two birds with one stone, I would bite the bullet and go for it....

Let me tell you, it was the best thing I ever done in my life.....Almost no more migraines, and I can buy a bra in all those sexy department stores as well( ended up with a very nice lift too)

Just my 2 cents, and give you something to think about..( if your female...sorry, forgot to check if this were the case)

I have had migraines on and of since age 11.

Did a ten day fast as a 25yo and didn't get another migraine for 5 or 6 years afterwards.

They dissapeared again while I was on an all raw vegan diet, (I wouldn't recommend that for any more than a few weeks), and didn't return for years.

I am now on a diet of mostly unprocessed/unrefined foods and get very few migraines, usually after doing something stupid like drinking too much alcohol or coffee or eating chocolate.

If I get a migraine in the morning I head straight for the coffee pot and ciggies.

For those late in the day, I go to bed and sleep it off.

I used to get 3-5 a month. Maxalt worked wonders for me, but if you don't have insurance (like I didn't then) be prepared to pay about $22 per pill, and they come in a package of 6. But they worked extremely well. When I didn't have those, the only thing that worked was to lay down in a dark room with an ice pack on the back of my neck and over my eyes and pray for sleep - there were times I would take benadryl or nyquil to knock me out too. I always get extreme pain with mine. Mine also seem to be triggered by allergies (allergic to dogs/cats) Once I got rid of the furniture that my ex's dog had slept all over , I have had maybe 5 in 3 years as opposed to every month- each time after being exposed to pets or cigarette smoke. Of course, I also moved thousands of miles away from the ex as well, so maybe it's a combination of the two!

Thanks for sharing your experiences, Gretchen, Morton 68, Blacksheep and Caligirl.

    Nikita, no offense whatsoever.

Gretchen, I had been taking aspirin during my teeneage years and I had no reaction. The reaction set in a few years ago when I washed down the aspirin with Pepsi, its a no, no. I always had problems swallowing aspirin.

Moreton68. if what you said works for 'men' it would interesting to consider.

BlackSheep. Yes, I'll go along with the Veg diet. I stay away from process foods. I now drink coffe, but I've gotten migraines after drinking coffee. I've fasted a number of times. I also said, my migraines developed after sustaining a head injury in school, prior to that I never had a headache.

Caligirl, your closing words would lessen the pain of migraine, "Of course, I also moved thousand miles away from the ex as well, so maybe it's the combination of the two." You gave me a laugh.

I've mentioned the light factor often. As much as I hated and destested light, I fought it. I forced my eyes to stay open and I would walk or ride a bike for 20 - 30 minutes (in the open air ) and it would gradually disappear. This is a 'tough' task to perform but like I said, it has worked for me. It's a comfort to know that I don't need meds and the migraine will last a brief time. Just what corelation air and light does to my migraine would be an interesting study.

    Thanks again for your comments.

I have major headaches daily, and those can develop into a full blown migraine, which happens about 1/4 of the time. Or in other words, I'm sick as a dog for one week a month.

I have yet to find the cure, tried all sorts of things, diets, chiropractor, acupuncture (not working for me least, cuz I tend to panick the minite I see those needles, lol).

Next to headaches, I find I am totally wiped out, too tired to do anything. My brain just refuses to work with me, no doubt for the shitload of meds I take to control the pain.

I have no solution, even on minor-headache days I will feel like 80 years old at times. I wear coloured glasses to keep the light out (thank god that is considered cool in fashion )

Sorry, I can't help, but I just felt like whining about it *whines*

Viv, I got to learn how others deal with their migraines. I've had mine for about forty-five years! I've come to terms as to how to deal with the problem. No pills and fight the light. My migraines as not as wicked before. . I've noticed what I eat has helped in reducing migraines.

No your not 'whining.' It's good to share experiences. Well, at least we know that were alone with this headache.
