My daughter was teaching dance class at the Y. None of us had a clue that anyone had a thing against exercising there. UNTIL an Uberelder just about took her head off when he heard about it. We thought he was making it up.

Oh me, the shite that has been dumped - a Niagara Falls of manure.

It seems they've had a 100 year loathing of the YMCA.

7:24. Wherefore I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the pomp of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be defiled.—Macaulay, the English historian, spoke of America as destined to be destroyed by Its own Huns sad Vandals, the unassimilated, uncivilized elements, especially of the cities. The anarchistic masses will literally live in the houses of the erstwhile rulers and prominent people. The display of power and magnificence of the strong on*, 'Satan, the alleged eternal-torment God, and the devil-worshipers of Christendom shall cease. Literally, the churches, Y. M. C. A.'s, monasteries and convents, supposedly holy, will be defiled by the impious. - The Finished Mystery 1918

A disabled new brother was threatened with a JC if he did not resign from the YMCA. He had joined as it was almost free due to his being disabled.

    Absolutely prohibited here.

Apparently it is a place you can go ...

You can stay there, have a good meal and hang out with all the guys.

Another example of the R& F , Elders ,speaking out of both sides of there mouth , when over the years they get mixed , ambiguous messages from the G.B. as to weather you can be a member or not , if it`s part time / full time etc, with different Elders in different parts of the country or even the world don`t have the same viewpoint .

Would we rather be allowed to select our physicical starvation, while waiting for building of witness own "clear" swimming pools, built without demonic superstitious membership obligation?

If on a small island, a Ymca pool would be the only one pool to swim available, would i ever learn swim? No if am obidient and cause freedom to learn swim is no human right on the island. If YMCA was the only way to get a daily warm meal, a soup with potato after workout would you be a member or would you starve? How important is sport for you?

Perhaps those who dont go there are simply unsportsmanlike.

Look at it this way....if you're spending money anywhere other than giving it to the watchtower corporation(tm) then you must stop IMMEDIATELY! Do not spend money working out, give it to the WBT$. After all, pope Lett needs a new Rolex.

Girl Next Door - Thanks for sharing the article from the dublication. Is that the principle behind their association with the UN?

I was told by the elders in my congregation when I was in that even if you received a free membership from the YMCA you would be disfellowshipped or disassociated because it was pledging membership to a false religious charter. You could take individual classes there, but you could not join the Y as a member to use their facilities on a regular basis as it was considered apostasy. I believe this is still upheld.

I've even heard accounts of JW's grade school children. Grade school children are often taken to swimming pools in their physical education/recreation classes. I've even heard accounts where extreme JW parents of children would REFUSE the school teacher to allow the children even to be taken to the YMCA for swimming recreation!!!!

But to be left behind at the school to sit in the library or something and read or do homework. Or if it was the last class before noon hour or home time, the kid could just go home early. Now, how's that for extremism!!!!!!
