Obviously athletes Linford Christie and Carl Lewis are black. But how about persons of mixed parentage, are they considered to be black too?

How about my son's old girl friend whose grandmother was from the Phillipines, is she black because her skin had a slight (and very beautiful) brownish glow that came from her ancestor?

Is there some defining line that makes a person either black or white? Or are black people only of African origins?

Tiger, even though he is half-Chinese, is the "black" golfer, while Vijay Singh who is darker skinned is never even referred to as being black. Seems like it has more to do with facial features than skin color.

I feel here in usa, it is not just the color of your skin, but your attitude and dress. As Hapyout said on another thread, many of the things associated with being black are from poor balcks, and the gheto culture. The middle class blacks do not live, dress, or speak this way. It would be like saying all whites work in factories, drive trucks, live in trailers, etc. That is one aspect of white america, poor white america.

People just like to poke fun at the poor.

In America, it seens to do with what your parents put on your birth certificate....and how you identify yourself on applications. Sometimes it might help, ie on a college application, so you might as well put down that you are. Sometimes it might not, ie on a mortgage application, so you might not want to. (Study after study shows that if race is asked and offered, not required, people trying to obtain mortgages will be denied if they identify themselves as black)
