MPs can .. tell us what to think on a range of issues. - LUHE

Except of course that they can't. Any government who attempts to do so has no place in a liberal democracy.

cofty, do you think freedom of speech means that a person should be able to publicly teach that tea made with Oleander leaves (deadly poison!) is a good remedy for the common cold, without facing any criminal charges? - Island Man

What a bizarre question. You are really clutching at straws to find exceptions to the right to free speech aren't you?

If you mean that if somebody knowingly entices another person to eat something they know to be deadly with malicious intent, then yes of course they should be charged with murder. What on earth has that got to do with the price of fish?

they also have a responsibility to protect the intellectually weak from being harmed by others.

Yes they do. It's called education.

Who are the intellectually weak that you think needs protecting?

Freedom of speech is good as long as the speech does not hamper the freedom of life and wellbeing of others.

Whose freedom is being hampered by the millions of christians and Muslims who believe that god disapproves of gay relationships?

Tell me what harm results from criminalising the public dissemination of ideas which are not provably true and which, when followed, result in the harm of others.

Have you never read about the tyranny of thought control under Stalin, Mao Tse-Tung, Pol Pot and Kim II Sung?

    Have you never read 1984?

It is terrifying to observe a group of educated young people with such a cavalier attitude to freedom.

Christianity is a bad idea that results in harm. So is Islam. So is astrology. Anti-Vaxx movement is a very bad idea. Climate change denial is ignorant and dangerous.

Let's criminalise everything that offends your sensibilities. God forbid you might have to argue for the veracity of your opinions.

Let's review the actual video we are discussing. Here is the position of the cult.

1 - The bible is inspired of god (it isn't)

2 - The bible condemns gay relationships (it does)

3 - The "world" is teaching our children that gay marriage is ok. (it is - quite right too)

4 - They make a video explaining that god's view is the only one we should pay attention to.

5 - Nowhere is the girl encouraged to tell her friend anything negative about her lesbian parents.

And a number of posters here want to make that a criminal offense.

Tyranny is not lessened when it comes with good intentions.

The Bible doesn't discuss "gay relationships". What the Bible does say has been interpreted in various ways. Some people who believe in the Bible also believe that what it says allows for gay marriage, others believe that it doesn't.

    Cofty,

5 - Nowhere is the girl encouraged to tell her friend anything negative about her lesbian parents.

Obviously you do not know how kids function ANYTHING that mom said in that entire conversation is now repeatable on the playground. She will repeat the entire conversation. Disgusting!

Try standing in the same room with a kid talking to your spouse and let a 4 letter word slip out, guess who has just added a new word to their dictionary.

Side by side interpretations of verses commonly assumed to oppose homosexuality.

What the Bible does say has been interpreted in various ways.

That is irrelevant. The Watchtower and millions of christians and Muslims interpret it as they do. The question is whether it should be a criminal offense to say so.

Some here think it should be. I could not disagree more.

You didn't say JWs interpret the Bible that way. You stated that the Bible itself condemns gay relationships. It's relevant to point out that many don't interpret the Bible that way. And JWs may change their position too as society changes it view. It's increasinly socially unacceptable.
