''The Flood story is total myth, borrowed from much earlier Flood stories, in many small details.''

There physically isn't enough ice at the poles to melt and totally cover the entire Earth, even over Everest.

If there was a 'flood' covering the entire Earth, including Everest, where did all the water go??

I remember that if the mass of a planet changes, so does its orbit. With the amount of water required to cover the Earth, it would change the plane't mass and thereby Earth's orbit. This would make

tbk this would make the flood story another miracle.

funny the wt god is bond by the law of life for a life, revenge, ransom, but can (in bible stories anyway) nilly willy ignore the laws of nature.

The WTS could get around 90% of the impossibilities and logical absurdities of the flood being a literal [100% of the earth's surface underwater for a period of a year] thing, if they just took the tack that it was a large but localized event, and that the "world" referred to in Genesis carries the same meaning as what they teach about Colossians 1:23 - the expression "all creation under heaven" means merely the "known world".

But they've dug their heels into Biblical literalism for so long they just simply can't bring themselves to do that.

it was a large but localized event,

s82: good suggestion, for wt writers that have that sinking feeling. but

but wt is on a cosmic mission, universal sovereignty, retreating into a local corner won't do, and would make the end of this generation a local event too, @ warwick NY.

The Flood of Noah's Day was my first public talk. Lol. I have always wondered why core samples never have shown a worldwide flood. Scientist study core samples in ice, mud, rock to see history of the earth.

SM: this is not even deep time history of the earth, with Noah, we are talking about only twice as old as "Jesus", a total wipe out of all native life, massive bone fields, not even fossilized.

Incredible, they are still teaching the Vail theory from the 1800’s about the water canopy.

The problem with the idea of a local flood, if extensive from the writers point of view, is that it does not fit with the Org's beloved " Bible Chronology ", there was no such flood anywhere near the time that the Genesis story is supposed to be set.

No doubt various cultures experienced quite devastating floods, which gave rise to the various flood myths, the fact that the Noah story and the number of other flood stories from around the middle east are so similar, bespeaks of a folk memory of a really bad flood, way way before the time of Noah. Maybe of when the Med. broke through to the Black Sea ?

The whole flood myth turns god in to a maniacal lunatic. Why kill everyone with flood when only a couple of his buddies were naughty. Just punish the bad ones. Duh!!

What a spiteful, pure evil, childish schnook god must be.
