Am I unwelcome here?

    Esmeralda,

I've seen comments like this from several lists I've been on over the years--as others said, don't take it personal. Simon has set up a very good discussion board that's user friendly, and has attracted new and old alike. Sure, when groups are small they take on the small town flavor of everyone knowing the names of the kids and grandchildren. There are benifits of staying small, but it doesn't encourage new blood and fresh ideas. Yeah, larger can be a pain because crap happens, but that's why god created the Delete button on the sixth day. I really enjoy the bigger groups because they tend to challenge me more than the small ones.

I enjoy your postings, and always stop and actually read your posts. Hell, I don't read my own stuff because I recognize quality material, and don't waste time with the rest. You, and many others add quality to this forum--and it doesn't matter if one is old or new to the group.

You aren't going anywhere! And that is an order I haven't been here since the beginning, but I remember the coziness that Waiting is talking about. There are things that occur here on a daily basis that brings all of us closer. And this is part of the coffee shop feature, yes you are new here but you are so beneficial and already a big part of "us". I know that you have witnessed this already. I have been drawn to you and our posts since you started here. And you have already affected my life. Thank you.

As far as "the bad guys" Forget about them! We can straighten them out when it is appropriate. Until then, ignore senselesss behavior. I was in chat today and am going to relate a conversation Drue, Kent and myself had, that relates to this topic. I hope you guys don't mind, well Kent I know you won't Someone came into chat and was an active JW, she questioned about this place and asked if anyone was still in the "truth" Kent replied "What is truth" At the same time Drue and myself were talking to her and we took another approach. Actually Drue was honest and said he was DA. I gotta admit I fudged justa little and said that there was mnay active JW here.

Ok, the woman bailed, left the chat like she had been touched by Satan the Devil himself. This led to the whole point of my story After she left we talked about the different approaches to true believers. I cannot recall who said what so I won't quote, but we all ended up agreeing in the end that there are different approaches to use. Actually approach is not a good word, because she came here, she was looking. In RL we all handle things differently and we have varied personalities. Thank goodness because we would all be walking around like Mr, Rogers in monotone if not.

So the real point? heehee I enjoy this forum immensely because I am able to meet people from all over the world and benefit from the experiences they have had. I get to take shortcuts, because alot have aready been there and can advice me. I liked the small coffee shop but I have gotten more out of the buffet style restraunt we have now.

Thanks to all who add color to this board, including Fred, I have laughed alot over that poor fellow. But laughter is one of the ingredients in life, and I cherish it.

    Esmeralda,

I asked myself why so many people were attracted to this DB in the first place? Was it not often due to the warmth and welcoming spirit of those who are now considered old-timers? When I was lurking I enjoyed reading the posts of Java, lark, Zazu, waiting, comf, ozzie, simon, many others and I still do when they post. I think they have not changed their helpful attitude (and our input is still welcome, yours and mine) even if they do not post as much as they used to. There were many nice posters of late here too, as others have mentioned.

I found I that I learn a lot on this board. I do not post much but I feel that a lot of what I read here (including your posts) enrich me and help me be a more balanced and rounded person. I still feel I have way much to learn so I’ll probably stay around for some time more.

As yourself, I find it difficult to follow what’s going on, because I evidently miss some (many) threads. I would only repeat what simon and others suggested earlier, that perhaps people should post more IN OTHER FORUMS. Much of what is put in the main forum could go to bible research, news and events, make new friends, doctrine and practices forums etc.

    Just my 2 kopecks

Ah, Wendy… while I was writing my post you wrote yours. True, Esmeralda, I agree with what Wendy said above – different approaches. You are certainly welcome by many. It is only good that not by all, because one simply can’t be accepted by all – even God isn’t :)

    Esmeralda,

You add so much to this forum with your writing and your view of the world. Try to take from others only what encourages and inspires you and makes you feel good and let the negativity pass you by. As you can see from all the posts here, your input is appreciated and you would really be missed if you left. I hope that the few negative people who post here don't cause you to leave as I believe that most are genuine and have something worthwhile to share.

    love shalom

    Dear Sweet Es,
Never ever feel like you are not welcome!! You will never know how many of your posts I have read with tears streaming down my face.
One in particular that I can remember was the one about your five year old daughter and how shunning affected her. It gave me the viewpoint through a wholely (sp) different perspective! I never thought about how it would appear through a child's eyes. And did it ever have an impact on me. Children don't have all the preconcieved notions and crap the world fills their minds with, they see it very clearly in black and white and many times recognize truths that we adults have lost somewhere along the way.
There have been days when the meaness and the wrangling have bothered me tremendously. But I try to just skip over those posts and read those that enrich me.
I am a relative newcomer too, but sometimes I feel like an old-timer. And as an in-betweener let me tell you we love you and enjoy your imput immensely.

hi essy love your posts they are moving and eloquent.

essy in answer to your question these are the people i know for sure are unwelcome here at this web site:

lonewolf, hilarystep, freeatlast, maybe fred hall, darkclouds, maybe emyrose, maybe orbison because she was impatient in having her post responded to so janh had to reprimand her for her lack of maturity, suzi mayhem ,ah i'm not sure if i'm welcome, because janh & logical asked if simon could delete me from the board, i guess that does count as not welcome, so i'm unwelcome, is it possible to be double unwelcome if you also happen to like another unwelcome one? does anyone know? perhaps those here who are sharing in the identifying and declaring work may like to inform me, those engaged in the ministry of identifying and declaring who are the troublemaking unwelcome ones posting on exjw web sites?

that is unless you were asking the question in some kind of larger sense essy - because i suspect you know what i'm saying here and why i've responded to your question in this way

    goo.
    (honestly unwelcome class)

ps anyone i've forgotten feel free to add to the above list of known unwelcome trolls troublemakers and not very nice completely ingenuine people.

    Goo,
Obviously, you have no insight in the feeling of unwelcomeness that Essie is feeling. Do you see all the people telling her to stay? Why, because she adds to this board. You obviously have slight problem with people expressing their opinion of you. Is your skin that shallow?

As far as being able to spot the troublemakers, well I guess you can't be a troublemaker to be able to spot one can you? Or maybe he troublemakers spot each other and then you have a little gang of troublemakers.

I am sorry if you feel unwelcome, there are very few I wish to not see anymore on this board, and the reasons are blatantly obvious. Perhaps you do too, and this is just a way for you to get more attention? I don't know, I don't know you. I can tell you though that those that cause trouble really shouldn't be here, in my opinion.

Simon has developed a great site, and his views on free speech are remarkable, and the way the board really handles their own problems is testament to human nature. If there are a few who enter and decide to ruffle some feathers, let them, they will soon grow tired and disappear if they are ignored. Oops I really should follow my own advice on that one, Have a good day.
    wendy
