an ass by any other name is still an ass
free at last:
thanks for initiating this one, much appreciated, there are some of us here that are open to possibility,
for without such a notion the earth might still be flat, and the moon might still be made of cheese, and some of us here would still be assimilated.
to all the geniuses out there who dared to step away from the mainstream, and challenge the norm, these are the men to whom i would tip my hat if i was wearing one,
those are the souls who i admire and respect, and they have my gratitude for opening the doors of perception, through their courage and persistence they showed society that the mainstream view is not always correct, it is only popular.
for the amusement of those that can read and understand and have a grasp for language and possibility, let's play a bit. . .
Clearly, if v > c, the factor sqrt(1 - v^2/c^2) is imaginary. This means that the transformed quantities of distance, time, mass and length are imaginary.Do you have any idea what an imaginary distance is? Or an imaginary time? Or an imaginary mass? Or an imaginary length? Of course not, and neither does anyone else.
Therefore, plugging velocities greater than c into the various relativistic equations gives meaningless results.---alan
v=velocity c=speed of light
i=imaginary
i believe the imaginary principle was covered in another thread
keep that quote in the back burner. . .
kurt vonnegut explains his time theory in Slaughterhouse 5
so for those familiar with this story you will understand where i am coming from,
for those who don't know it
in a nutshell, he explains that all moments,
past, present, future,
always have existed, always will exist
its just a matter of time before we get to it
it is an illusion that we have on earth where one moment follows another
like beads on a string
thus the reason we see time as linear
his tralfamadorians(aliens)
can look at different moments
the same way we would look at a skyline,
they choose to look at whatever interests them at the moment
and when bored move on to the next.
so when someone dies
they see the person in a bad situation at that particular moment
but the same person is still fine in plenty of other ones
(kinda like the way jesus saw lazarus when he ressurected him)
thus time explained in his context. . .
with this in mind
picture this,
what if our perception as humans,
is understood by the universe to be 'imaginary'
in the mathematical sense
our time, distance, length and mass
to us seems real because it is all we know at the moment,
and that is the way we se things,
you know like the earth being flat,
relatively, that thought permeated the masses not that long ago.
because we have mass we will never accelerate past it
we are limited by c, the speed of light
so all these physical laws that govern our realm have limited us to traveling accross time,
because it is beyond our physical attainment
c and mass are the reasons we percieve time to be linear
now a being from a higher dimension,
that has no mass can exceed this speed that we call 'imaginary'
because 'he/she' understands this concept and is not limited by it,
thus 'he/she' can cross it, alter it, do whatever they choose with it,
because 'he/she' can,
there is a function for imaginary numbers and these do explain real concepts as stated by alan.
who is to say that these functions can't be applied to that which we are yet to understand
and that these may be explained by science in the future. . .
Note that for v larger than c the Lorentz transformation equations are meaningless, in that real coordinates and times are transformed into imaginary ones. Thus c appears to play the role of a limiting velocity for all physical phenomena.
again c appears to play the role of a limiting velocity for all physical phenomena
seems like the scientist who wrote this is somewhat open minded from his use of the word 'seems'
