I think a lot will see this video that proves they pushed the whole 1975 agenda and will realise that gods representatives just lied again. They are destroying their own church by being movie stars.

most of those who had the wrong expectations made the needed adjustments and they stayed.

    Casestudy:

If grandpa was one of those who simplyfied life and pioneered as exemplary christians: He was frustrated, and the needed adjustment for him was to ignore the doubts and to keep silent with the purpose to remain in good standing, simplyfing life is anyhow the best way to serve J even if it is perverted by a date. Yeah, in the green bible is no date Adjustment: "Change your view of dates and accept the fact that we changed and adjusted too"!!

If grandpa was however not coming over his frustration and would have questioned the society deeper and over a longer period and would have not aggreed to "the adjustment" he would have lost his good standing and so even his family. Adjustment: "Think of your children and remain faithful. "!

If grandpa was one of the minority who not believed in the date, he was certainly not a pioneer perhaps a rebel, he would have anyhow had to adjust any rebelious gossips about what was written and expected and keep silent as well to remain in good standing. Adjustment: "Dont stumble your weakened frustrated brother by unnecessary talking about 1975"!

    ---

The young ones present at this years convention will not realise what really happened, because the older will not tell them the truth anyhow. 1975 and dates exist in a fog of negative image. Talking about it would stop any conservation. Or will the olders now being proud about what they lived through, "Happy us who we lived in 1975!" Those good old times when we could endure some speculation and how much it helped us to love Jehova more and prepare for the coming end. And will all grandpas now begin to tell of these old times, how they wondered why so many believed in dates or men (Franz) and not really in Jehova and went away. Oh how it was thrilling and dramatic in 1975.

In 1969-1975, the players had already been through 2 significant flip-flops in wt doctrines/ procedure, the "Superior / supreme Authorities" and the rotating or not elder position. So: the non-event in 1975, left kind of a vacuum, but no panic or even discussion, just an accepting of another passing wt phase. Even those hurt financially remained mum. But the utter failure of the Society as a teaching, research authority had become evident. is wt trying to destroy that evidence?

My spouse told me once the magnificent 7 got settled in Warwick we would begin to see them do and say some crazy sh@t. We think that this is just the beginning. They have been writing some things in the rags for quite some time, preparing the rank and file for "new light." These guys are slick and narcissistic. A narcissist will NEVER admit mistakes or apologize for anything. It will ALWAYS be the other guys fault. They will never change.

    According to Psychology Today:

    https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/communication-success/201704/the-7-stages-gaslighting-in-relationships

“If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes accepted as the truth.” ―attributed to various sources

“Some people try to be tall by cutting off the heads of others.” —Paramahansa Yogananda

Gaslighting is a form of persistent manipulation and brainwashing that causes the victim to doubt her or himself, and ultimately lose her or his own sense of perception, identity, and self-worth. The term is derived from the 1944 film Gaslight, in which a husband tries to convince his wife that she’s insane by causing her to question herself and her reality.

In its milder forms, gaslighting creates a subtle, but inequitable, power dynamic in a relationship, with the gaslightee subjected to the gaslighter’s unreasonable, rather than fact-based, scrutiny, judgment, or micro-aggression. At its worst, pathological gaslighting constitutes a severe form of mind-control and psychological abuse. Gaslighting can occur in personal relationships, at the workplace, or over an entire society.

Multiple studies and writings have focused on the phenomenon of gaslighting and its destructive impact.[1][2][3][4][5][6] Here are seven stages through which a pathological gaslighter dominates a victim (excerpted from my book, How to Successfully Handle Gaslighters & Stop Psychological Bullying). Depending on the situation, there may be variations in the order and the number of gaslighting stages involved:

    1. Lie and Exaggerate. The gaslighter creates a negative narrative about the gaslightee (“There’s something wrong and inadequate about you”), thereby putting the gaslightee on the defensive.

“My wife is a pathetic loser, and she needs to know the truth.” ―Anonymous husband

“The work your department does is a waste of time and resources. How do you even justify your employment?” ―Anonymous manager

“I hate it when you put groceries on the checkout counter that way. I told you before I HATE it!” ―Mother to daughter at supermarket

    2. Repetition. Like psychological warfare, the falsehoods are repeated constantly in order to stay on the offensive, control the conversation, and dominate the relationship.

    3. Escalate When Challenged. When called on their lies, the gaslighter escalates the dispute by doubling and tripling down on their attacks, refuting substantive evidence with denial, blame, and more false claims (misdirection), sowing doubt and confusion.

“When I caught my boyfriend sexting with someone, he flatly said it didn’t happen — that I imagined the whole thing. He called me a crazy b----.” ―Anonymous

    4. Wear Out the Victim. By staying on the offensive, the gaslighter eventually wears down their victim, who becomes discouraged, resigned, pessimistic, fearful, debilitated, and self-doubting. The victim begins to question her or his own perception, identity, and reality.

    5. Form Codependent Relationships. The Oxford Dictionary defines codependency as "excessive emotional or psychological reliance on a partner.” In a gaslighting relationship, the gaslighter elicits constant insecurity and anxiety in the gaslightee, thereby pulling the gaslightee by the strings. The gaslighter has the power to grant acceptance, approval, respect, safety, and security. The gaslighter also has the power (and often threatens to) take them away. A codependent relationship is formed based on fear, vulnerability, and marginalization.

    6. Give False Hope. As a manipulative tactic, the gaslighter will occasionally treat the victim with mildness, moderation, and even superficial kindness or remorse, to give the gaslightee false hope. In these circumstances, the victim might think: “Maybe he’s really not THAT bad,” “Maybe things are going to get better,” or “Let’s give it a chance.”

But beware! The temporary mildness is often a calculated maneuver intended to instill complacency and have the victim’s guard down before the next act of gaslighting begins. With this tactic, the gaslighter also further reinforces a codependent relationship.

    7. Dominate and Control. At its extreme, the ultimate objective of a pathological gaslighter is to control, dominate, and take advantage of another individual, or a group, or even an entire society. By maintaining and intensifying an incessant stream of lies and coercions, the gaslighter keeps the gaslightees in a constant state of insecurity, doubt, and fear. The gaslighter can then exploit their victims at will, for the augmentation of their power and personal gain.

Another possibility is that the 1975 debacle might in future teachings be linked to the great apostasy of 1980 in which Ray Franz was disfellowshipped. They'll probably hang all the blame for 1975 on him, especially now that he's not around to deny it.

I read somewhere that the temporary letting up of hostility to disfellowshipped ones published in a 70's Watchtower was only there because Ray had written the article.

Anonvet: thank you. The 1975 calculation was perhaps a subconscious attempt to get away from the 1914 generation crisis starting to loom, with already 2 or 3 natural generation having arrived since WWI? ....Thought about another angle.:

Jesus roamed the Earth for ~ 47 days as a spirit confined to Earth (on the way up), Satan for already 103 years, ( on the way down) a day for a prophetic year? something does not seem right! ha ha.

35 One thing is absolutely certain, Bible chronology reinforced with fulfilled Bible prophecy shows that six thousand years of man’s existence will soon be up, yes, within this generation! (Matt. 24:34) This is, therefore, no time to be indifferent and complacent. This is not the time to be toying with the words of Jesus that “concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matt. 24:36) To the contrary, it is a time when one should be keenly aware that the end of this system of things is rapidly coming to its violent end. Make no mistake, it is sufficient that the Father himself knows both the “day and hour”!

In modern times such eagerness, commendable in itself, has led to attempts at setting dates for the desired liberation from the suffering and troubles that are the lot of persons throughout the earth. With the appearance of the book Life Everlasting—in Freedom of the Sons of God, and its comments as to how appropriate it would be for the millennial reign of Christ to parallel the seventh millennium of man’s existence, considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. There were statements made then, and thereafter, stressing that this was only a possibility. Unfortunately, however, along with such cautionary information, there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility. It is to be regretted that these latter statements apparently overshadowed the cautionary ones and contributed to a buildup of the expectation already initiated.

6 In its issue of July 15, 1976, The Watchtower, commenting on the inadvisability of setting our sights on a certain date, stated: “If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises.” In saying “anyone,” The Watchtower included all disappointed ones of Jehovah’s Witnesses, hence including persons having to do with the publication of the information that contributed to the buildup of hopes centered on that date.

    A CAUSE FOR CONCERN

All seemed well in the spring of 1975. The Bethel family moved into their spacious new facilities, and Brother Lloyd Barry visited from Japan to give the dedication talk. The 1975 service year ended with an outstanding field report—including 8,120 baptized that year. Thus, in just three years’ time 19,600 were baptized. Well over half of the Korean Witnesses had been in the truth for less than three years.

However, the first few months of the 1976 service year began with a marked decrease in publishers and home Bible studies. This downward trend was to continue for over three years, bottoming out in a 26-percent decrease in publishers, from 32,693 in August 1975 to 24,285 in November 1978. Memorial attendance dropped too, from over 68,000 in 1975 to 49,545 in 1978. The brothers at the branch were perplexed. Would the trend be reversed?

Of course, neither they nor the Society were just letting it slide by. The Society’s letter of April 4, 1977, stated:

“We hope the brothers are careful in their teaching. Evidently some were very strong on the 1975 date, and so a good foundation was not laid. The foundation, of course, should be faith in Christ Jesus and the ransom sacrifice, and the dedication should be with understanding.”

A very candid observation indeed! Too much emphasis was placed on a date by some Bible teachers. Many newly baptized ones took up the truth on a wave of emotion. Even some elders had their hopes pinned to 1975. In addition, materialism seeped into the land as a result of the rapid economic growth in Korea, and nationalism was on the rise. The effect: apathy among the brothers.

*** jv chap. 28 pp. 632-633 Testing and Sifting From Within ***

Later on, during the years from 1935 through 1944, a review of the overall framework of Bible chronology revealed that a poor translation of Acts 13:19, 20 in the King James Version, along with certain other factors, had thrown off the chronology by over a century. This later led to the idea—sometimes stated as a possibility, sometimes more firmly—that since the seventh millennium of human history would begin in 1975, events associated with the beginning of Christ’s Millennial Reign might start to take place then.

Did the beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses on these matters prove to be correct? They certainly did not err in believing that God would without fail do what he had promised. But some of their time calculations and the expectations that they associated with these gave rise to serious disappointments.

Following 1925, meeting attendance dropped dramatically in some congregations in France and Switzerland. Again, in 1975, there was disappointment when expectations regarding the start of the Millennium failed to materialize. As a result, some withdrew from the organization. Others, because they sought to subvert the faith of associates, were disfellowshipped. No doubt, disappointment over the date was a factor, but in some instances the roots went deeper. Some individuals also argued against the need to participate in the house-to-house ministry. Certain ones did not simply choose to go their own way; they became aggressive in opposing the organization with which they had been associated, and they made use of the public press and television to air their views. Nevertheless, the number who defected was relatively small.

Meeting from Beroean Pickets has written an article on this. One of the points made is the following

The narrator of the video would have us believe the Organization was playing a different tune at that time. He adds: “But something just didn’t seem right. Both in meetings and in my personal study I was reminded of what Jesus said. Nobody knows the day or the hour”. [boldface added]
Sometimes you read or hear something like this and you just want to burst out with: “SAY WHAT?!”
The principle source for feeding the 1975 euphoria were the meetings, circuit assemblies, and district conventions. Additionally, magazine articles, particularly in the Awake! magazine, continued to feed this frenzy of anticipation. All of this is a matter of public record and cannot be successfully denied. Yet, here they are attempting to do just that, slipping it into a video almost as if they hope no one notices the poison pill.
