    Wing Commander:

There is a very interesting similar thread started by Funchback.

But, I love reading all these experiences! And, as you said, my mind is blown by the extent of the sheer pettiness of it all. It is very demoralizing though and to always be open to criticism (by every busybody plus the elders) was like death by a thousand cuts.

You are feeling good about yourself and somebody taps you on the shoulder or you get a stupid phone call.

Is it out of love that they feel it is their God given duty to do this??

While in some cases, such as when I was criticized for profanity, the criticism is justified, in some cases maybe not.

I feel that people sometimes were counseled because somebody was bothered by something about them that was not necessarily scripturally wrong (e.g. giving too intelligent answers at the bookstudy).

I was offended when I was told I was seen wearing a skirt with a slit. It was a longish skirt and the slit was tiny. I felt I was being persecuted because I had a decent figure and was supposed to go out of my way to dress dowdy. I was not trying to be sexy and was conscious of this stupid issue about "modesty" for the rest of my stay in the religion.

This garbage annoyed me to no end and it was really sad that the only time I got attention was when there was some criticism (e.g. about my full-time job) or if some user wanted something.

As you said, some of these elders are douchebags and certainly NOT interested in orphans and widows.....What I loved most about these hypocritical elders is how "nice" they were when they first came - only to see an about-face in their attitude once they were given the low-down about everybody in the hall by the other elders.

Maybe I should be glad because all this nonsense just made it easier for me to walk away from this phony "brotherhood" with all these back-stabbing idiots!

I was ratted out to the elders by a troublemaking ne'er do well for "underlining in Sunday's WT article during the preceding Thursday night service meeting."

One Sunday, after morning meeting, a big group of us young folks went to a local place for lunch. We were all early to mid-20s at the time; 5 guys, 4 girls, all single and only in the "friend zone." We saw a cranky pioneer sister sitting alone in a booth at the opposite end of the room. I knew her well, she liked me, I was an MS/pioneer at the time & attended pioneer school with this lady. We all saw her & felt bad she was by herself, so after placing our orders, we all got up and walked over to say hi (a rare thing for most young JWs to do). She was super friendly and we invited her to join us if she wanted to. She politely declined. Anyway FFWD a week and we were all individually pulled back to the B-room after the Thursday night meeting by an old nazi elder and his shivering sidekick. We were scolded for going out last Sunday as a coed group of singles without "proper adult supervision." The elders usually don't name names, but this time they did. They said, "Sister Solobitch was appalled that you all did such a thing." It totally surprised me. I attended that hall for 4 more years & for the rest of my time there, I only threw shade at her and never spoke to her again. ~DONE~

    @ DarioKhel...

    Let me get this straight...

...you and your buds invite her to join you... to, in effect, be your "proper adult supervision"... she declines, and then narcs on you for not having "proper adult supervision"...?

^^^^^ Exactly, that is really F*cked! I would have told that Elder, "What do you mean, ADULT SUPERVISION? We ARE adults!!! And furthermore, I don't have to ask her permission, or yours, to have lunch with my friends."

End of discussion. This is absolutely intolerable behavior. The freakin' balls these people have!! What century do these Puritans live in again? Talk about living in a bubble! I applaud you for never speaking to that old hag ever again. She gets what she deserves; a lifetime of isolation and loneliness. F'em!

Every time I saw that kind of thing (the experience would vary), I couldn't shake the feeling that the uptight tattletale ("uptighttletale"?) was really just stirring up shit because s/he resented the hell out of others "getting away with" stuff that s/he either wasn't allowed to do (at their age), or refrained from doing because s/he was too much of a dutiful rule-follower.

WingCommander, I was going to say what you said but in a gentler way but I must admit I prefer your way!

Some of these recent threads I have absolutely no clue how anyone lasted beyond one month being a JW clothing, what you can and cannot do, people spying on you 24/7, give me a break.

Forty plus years ago this Rebel of a woman entered the business world and was not afraid of cleaning house and stepping on toes and I took down a few men who were forced into early retirement or outright fired for misbehaving. I cannot believe there are still women today who will allow men to walk all over them as reported on this board.

Bikinis on a beach? Sucking chocolate? Haaaa! Weird how everything is about sex to some. Sounds like the Talibán cleric who said women shouldn't eat bananas or they may become aroused. Er no, your filthy minded arse shouldn't be near bananas, cleric fella. Leave the porn alone & go get another wife you freak.

As for me, some elders wives ran and told hubbies I disrespected them when I told them to shut up and stop making fun of the clothing of those of lesser means. Got called to the room. As I finished saying their wives need to shut up & stop tormenting the poorer "friends", two could only look at their shoes and the third whose wife wasn't involved was smiling like the Cheshire cat. Oh, and I specifically said, they aren't our boss. They can busy themselves bossing & aggravating you.

No. Further. Incident. Besides, they seriously thought I was crazy. No timidity, at all. fact, the following Sunday, the eldresses and their buddies all brought in clothing for anyone who may be of need. A clothing drive of sorts. 😆

Another incident where I got the speech. The literature MS kept telling me it was his birthday. So after a couple times of him saying it, I yelled "Happy Birthday!". Just then the PO was walking by and almost fell on the floor. He starts to give me the speech. Somewhere in the middle I stopped him, and let him know MS kept telling me it was his birthday, so there. Oh just stop, we're just having some fun. The MS was standing nearby and we burst out laughing. When I turned around to leave, I heard the PO say has everyone gone crazy!?

You know...this is all just so ludicrous and really funny how puffed up with self-righteousness some people get....the chocolate finger one is hilarious...and the group inviting sister snotty to lunch with them...well that woman obviously had some serious self-esteem issues. Such petty ridiculous behaviors....get out of the sandbox peeps......

There was this elder's wife who made a full dish of fudge. I was at her home with my brothers and we left after a few hours of visiting. This was when we were teenagers. She then called my mother accusing us of eating all her fudge. We were considered the low caste witness since our father wasn't one. We denied it but this Elder's wife and her Elder husband continued to accuse us. The fact is we wouldn't touch their food because they had many cats in the house that were allowed on the kitchen table, and cat hair was everywhere.

Then a couple hours later she called and apologized, apparently her son broke out in a hive. He then admitted to eating all that fudge. Seems like a harmless incident but this was my family's experience all throughout the religion during my youth. If you are viewed as a spiritually weak family then you are under scrutiny.

Well, what do you expect when you are part of a group that actually fosters this kind of mentality? The elders drone on and on about keeping the congregation clean. They encourage this type of behavior.

Here's one that happened to me, although I never actually got called on about it. When I was about twenty years old, some of the JW's threw a costume party. I think about half of the "brothers" all showed up dressed as "Fonzie". I took a different route. Egged on by my friends and with their encouragement, I dressed up as a girl. I wore a dress. No makeup or anything, didn't shave my legs, it was kind of a" Klinger" thing.

Everyone thought I must be crazy for doing that, but everybody got a laugh out of it, and some said I definitely stole the show that night. Nothing bad came from it.

Several years later, I moved to California. I was staying with JW friends for a few weeks while I waited to get into my own apartment. While I was at work, my friends wife took another friend (the wife of a MS) into my bedroom and went threw my boxes of things and got the pictures out of the costume party. She wanted to show her friend how funny I looked in the pictures.

But, her friend did not see the humor in it! She said, "Any man who would wear a dress is SICK!!!"

"No! it was for a costume party! See how funny it is!"

"I don't care if it was for a party or not! That is sick! Something is wrong with him!!!"

"You're right! He is sick! I don't want him living in my house anymore"

(My friends wife just found herself a new best friend).

Anyway, my friends wife told me about taking this person into my bedroom and going through my things. I kept waiting to get a call from the elders on this one, but it never happened. I was on my friends wife's enemy list from this point on, naturally my friend was no longer in support of me, and I ended up moving out prematurely before my apartment was ready.
