There is no such thing as freedom of speech - anywhere on this planet.  I cannot walk into anyone's home, for example, and insult them deeply without expecting some form of retribution therefore I impose censorship myself.

You've clearly no idea what freedom of speed is if you think that's what it is. You should learn a subject before you speak foolishly on it.

If you poke a hornets nest it is possible you will get stung

Have you heard of Neville Chamberlain?

Freedom of speech does not in reality exist - you're right, freedom of speech is an ideal, and does not exist to the nth degree.

You're wrongly pretending freedom of speech means something it doesn't. You should learn a subject before you speak foolishly on it.

Is this speech? it leaves me speechless. it is not even funny. This is neither picturesque debate nor discussion.

It is. Your opinion of it is irrelevant.

another reason for my "non-plus" is, --my life is too precious to be sacrificed on any altar.

Then it's not worth very much at all.

If freedom of speech includes a right to offend you'd think it should be equally applied.

Uh, the guy won 40000 euros. Are you suggesting that wasn't fair?

Now let's take a look at all the threads you made about muslims. Talk about an Axe to grind. Worse yet no one really thinks that you were referring to two sets of terrorists. You were referring to muslims in general.

I've made it quite clear that I was referring to the terrorists and no one else seems to have any trouble understanding that yet even when it's been explained you still want to insist that you get to decide what I meant. Surprise surprise, it's not flattering to me ... as though you have some axe to grind.

I wasn't labelling you an anti-semite, but you seem obsessed with bringing up the issue of anti-semitism. I am not interested with debating this with you anymore. I have made it clear what my position is and what we are not going to tolerate on here.

The only valid point you have is that calling them retards is insulting to retarded people. Feel free to mentally replace it with some other term that you find more acceptable.

Now, you are obviously determined to make an issue of something or other and have been highly critical and argumentative since you first appeared so it's highly likely you are someone who has been thrown off this site before come back to try and cause issues. We're not interested, go troll elsewhere.

No, I'm not suggesting the court remedy wasn't fair. If a court remedies a wrong, I hope you are not suggesting that bars us from being critical of the wrong.

I know it's off-topic, but: A Saudi Arabian Iman just declared that snowmen are a form of idolatry - f**king hilarious!

When was the last time it snowed in Mecca?Kids living there don't even have the opportunity to make snowmen. I guess it'll be different for muslim kids in Sweden.

Snowmen-making muslim kids and their parents obviously needed firm, loving counseling from one of their spiritual leaders because their weak spirituality led them to trespass the boundaries of acceptable Islam. Soon to follow: Snowmen decapitations in Canada and Greenland by offended radical muslims after a fatwa has been issued, comparing them to Buddha statues in Afghanistan. Soon after that, any snowmen-making heathens will be fair game for faithful armed grievers that must clean the neighborhood from idolater practices that so offend them. Sounds laughable? That's what's in store for all of those who coward and don't stand for freedom of speech now, for the sake of "keeping the peace".

Not to pee on the snowman-fatwa hating parade, but....that part of the world is currently experiencing snow storms so yes, plenty of oppurtunity to build snowmen.

Saudi Arabia is renowned for its strict interpretations - most Muslims are taught that sentient beings mustn't be crafted/depicted and so it's not really surprising.

So the outcome was fair. Why did you use it as an example? What are you even trying to use it as an example of?

Interesting article along the lines of the OP.

Ridicule has long been a custom in the UK and France. And a very healthy one IMHO. Go back to 1792 and you can see that even the royals had their high-borne ideals challenged in the daily press as the future George 4th was mocked for his lifestyle. I can't see either the UK or France deciding to make an exception for foreign countries.
