Whispering so I don't get stomped on Minus the verbage on the front, I would let my * 8* year old wear thongs. I have no problem with that. As D8TA says, it is just underwear Personally I find thongs MUCH more comfy than granny panties. I also have given her some of my silky hand me downs, she wears to bed and loves them. It feels good to feel feminine once in awhile. Now, before you jump all over me, I don't pass along the risque ones, but silky slips she just adores.

As for the "eye candy" comments BLAH! There is no sense in that.

Research indicates pretty conclusively that men's sexuality is visual. Hence all the advertisements using sex images directed at men. Pornography is for the most part and until very recently a man's domain. This is because of the visual connection to sexual images. The internet is full of child porn and even if there aren't children in the picture they women are advertised as being under age or are dressed to look so.

I agree 100% that a rapist does not care what his victim is wearing. And whatever she is wearing does not make it her fault.

But there has to be a line between these two issues. Just where do you draw it?

Even children are sexual beings. I really don't think we need to make their sexuality a conscious effort. They need to be children and be protected from adult sexuality and the perverts who would see them as acceptable sexual peers. Dressing them up in barely-there clothes, teaching them to be sexual being before they need to be is a huge mistake.

Given that.... knowing my history of being forcible sexualized by an adult when I was 8 yrs old makes me keenly aware of the amount of attention a pervert gives to a child he views as a sexual object. Maybe my viewpoint is squewed but I would rather keep the kids covered up than wearing the thong because next thing will be the thong bikini and they will be on the beach with them

It's true what LadyLee says about men being visual, they're hard-wired that way. Ever watched one go into that stupor-daze, without even realizing it, when they catch sight of somebody that looks really good, etc.? You gotta sock 'em in the arm to snap them out of it.
Agree, also, that attire is not the faulting factor for rape, etc.
Thongs? Never tried 'em... you gotta have great buns to wear thongs I would think.
(They remind me of the "belts" we were given to use... well, you know... the ladies might remember those.... how horribly uncomfortable those were! Total yuk!)
And kids? Guess times have changed, but I was horrified when my mother said it was time for me to get a bra!

Read it just in the past few days, a post, not sure where... one of the forums I'm sure... about the xbrother who was on a JC about the young lady called in re: fornication or whatever, and she was grilled to the enth-degree as to whether she had worn thongs or regular panties.... remember that one? It was the saddest thing I ever read.... and this xbro was soooooo apologetic. The reasoning of the elders was (and I don't know if this is across-the-board instructions that all elders get, or if it was just the elders in that one JC), but if a woman wore a thong and was on a date or whatever, they determined that meant she went with the desire to "get laid;" whereas if she had worn regular undies, her intentions would NOT have been to get laid (or is that layed?).... Yes, seems they were policing (police-ing) down to the underwear level...

And if that is the logic going on at the KH, better not let the elders know if you let your young daughters wear thongs...

Not trying to be funny either.

It's cute and fun and sweet," said Hampton Carney, spokesman for the company based in New Albany, Ohio

That is pretty disgusting and I am surprised to see Les Wexner make such a move targeted for children ~ Especially since he has two little ones of his own now. It really surprises me .. that is for sure. This is the man who built a mega campus for a school in that tiny town for the benefit of the children and if you blink you miss the town it's that small. This is the same man who owns Victoria Secret, Limited, Lerner's, Structure, Bath and Body Works, Lane Bryant etc etc. Time to drop him a note. :(

    Moe,

I do agree with you. Believe or or not though, my daughter is only 10 and she has actually just started her period! She is getting so shaply, I have to watch what she puts on. Last week she was riding her bike, in front of our house, wearing her two piece but very conservative bathing suit. You know, the tank top kind with the shorts for bottoms. Anyway, some guy actually drove up behind her, gave a honk and made cat calls! God, I was like, "Hello, she's 10!!!" Girls are going through puberty so much earlier these days, I have read about different causes for this. Anyway, it sure is scary. She has made comments about my underwear being prettier than hers but how they look so uncomfortable. She is always complaining about her jeans giving her wedgies so I dont think I have to worry about her wanting those undies.

    FYI on thongs

I also complained of wedgies, my friend suggested I try thongs. They are pretty uncomfortable for the first few days, but once you get used to them, they are WAY more comfy than normal panties. As for wearing thongs and associating them with sexuality, I don't buy that. I have a wide variety of plain colored ones, and don't feel anymore sexual when wearing thongs. As for underwear in general there are many "granny panties" that are dolled up with lace and such that are more sexual enticing than regular thongs. Please peeps don't confuse this issue, by generalizations.

As I said, I don't agree with the comments made on them, that is just sick! I also noticed that when clothes shopping for my daughter there are many clothes, short tees and such that have these types of sayings on them. "Babe" Hottie" "Kiss this" depicting a pair of lips etc, and all of them marketed for preteens. Where is the outcry there? Honest I had a hard time choosing some summer clothes for Miranda that didn't make her look like a hootchie mama.

    Agree with you, Wendy.

I also wonder why people think that dressing children up as adults will make them more vulnerable to pedophiles, considering that they are attracted to childish traits in the first place.
