Not for any rational person who cares about protecting children it doesn't.

But JWs are one of the organisations who specialise in hiding pedophiles and knowingly expose their children to danger. Why do you think that is?

Johnamos, in Witness-speak, this is not a law but a (general) principle. Should this principle be upheld in every case, especially in the case of child molestation or murder? Certainly this might have worked to some extent in the first century and before, but do you really think it should be applied in the 21st century? Today we have Forensics: fingerprints, DNA, and physical evidence, etc., even better than human witnesses, and more conclusive. So, by not reporting child abuse to the authorities you bury the evidence. Who would you be protecting, the child or the pedophile?
By the way, Johnamos, do you have children? Would you leave them in the care of any of your brothers at the Kingdom Hall? If you do, you're an idiot, because you do not know who the pedophiles are. Only the elders are privy to that information, which they will not share with ordinary publishers. But don't worry, justice for the victims are imminent. If this appeal goes through, it will pave the way for may more cases to be opened against the Watchtower, and their ilk, which will hurt their pocket, and (hopefully) drive them to bankruptcy.
Well, that was probably not a docket entry the WTS team was happy to see. The media triggered the intense scrutiny against the RCC probably more than the financial impact of the lawsuits. The Boston Globe reporting really set the whole thing off.

This is what I was thinking myself. As great as lawsuits are, it seems the media really helps it achieve critical mass.
I would think the media would love a "new" catholic church. . . . It's about time.

Is this for the Conti case or the more recent San Diego case? I did n't see it specified in teh link (unless I overlooked it).

What I am condemning is someone whom becomes aware that their child or a child has been abused and does not go to the authorities first but instead goes to the elders and then that someone continues to not go to the authorities but then blames the elders and the WTS policies for the reason of why it is not reported to the authorities.

As far as I am aware, none of these lawsuits are about the elders/WTS not reporting the plaintiff's abuse to the authorities. They are about the congregations/WTS having knowledge that these men were molesters from previous incidents and continuing to allow them to occupy positions of responsibility in the congregation. And this in an organization that routinely expels people, thus giving the impression to gullible parents that it would never allow such a person to occupy a position of trust.

Johnamos, that is because child molestation amongst the Witnesses has been swept under the rug by the Society for many years. These instructions, not to report it to the authorities, have come down from the top, and has been enforced by CO's and elders alike. If you follow the different courtcases and the threads of Barbara Anderson, you will be enlightened as to the facts. Now, at last, the pigeons have come to roost. Somewhat too late for those young lives that have been destroyed, by timeously nevertheless!
