    Newly Enlightened:

Note, too, the "lobster claw" holding the scepter.

    Thanks.

I admit I have been guilty of dismissing these sort of reports in the past without considering them properly.

I appreciate the well informed comments of CoCo and OrpahnCrow. Thank you both.

    Very odd?

Thank you for the welcome, CoCo...and cofty for your response.

No, I don't think that it is 'very odd'. As I said before, subliminal imaging has been embraced by the advertising industry for many decades.

I would think it would be odd if the WTS didn't use subliminal imaging. After all, they are the masters at advertising and distributing propaganda images.

I have been aware of subliminal images in advertising since the early 70s when I read a book about it. And now, with the advent of computer technology, the subliminal additions into artwork is even easier than before. Photographs can easily have images inserted into them.

I don't engage in popular culture as much as most people do - I am not bragging, I am just weird. I rarely watch television and almost never pick up a magazine except when I go to see the doctor or dentist. I certainly never buy popular culture magazines. A month or two ago, I was in a medical office and was looking through one of the glossies and I was immediately struck by the large amount of subliminal images in the advertisements.

I think that because I rarely look at advertising images, the subliminal imaging was very apparent to me - my brain has not had the conditioning that most people have succumbed to by their constant exposure to advertising. Our brains are lazy - the brain operates on a schematic thinking model and does not bother with allowing perceptions to process all the time - it just makes fast leaps whenever it can. Seeing is a part of our perceptual process that involves the brain interpreting what our eyes see. The brain will always take the easy way out unless you make it work - subliminal images are perceived by the right side of the brain but the right side has no language therefore our left side doesn't bother with what the right side is perceiving all the time. But that doesn't mean that the meaning of the subliminal image hasn't imprinted itself in your brain. The left side of the brain has a superiority complex and will ignore the right side a lot of the time.

In advertising, the industry that utilizes subliminal images quite heavily, is the liquor industry. Check it out - pick up a glossy magazine and find a liquor ad - the most frequent kind of images are sexual and one of the most likely places to find them are in the ice cubes. And in reflections on the glass bottles or drinking glasses. *another hint - turn the advertisement upside down or sideways - trick the left side of the brain into shutting down somewhat so that it doesn't recognize the primary image.

One of the previous posters had mentioned that the penis on the back of the songbook was not anatomically correct. That is a characteristic of subliminal images - they are inserted in unlikely places and not 'anatomically correct' places. Upside down, sideways and backwards are usual postions for the image.

OrphanCrow - or anybody - What do you think the Watchtower's motivation would be for inserting pornographic and occult images?

Cofty - I think that subliminal imaging is used as a device to stimulate the viewer.

Sexual images (and these are the most common subliminal images used in advertising) create a situation that the brain responds to with heightened stimulation. Therefore, viewing the image makes a person 'feel good'. And this process occurs regardless if you recognize the sexual image as being such - that cunning part of the brain - the silent right side - is busy providing a person's body with extra adrenaline, even in minute quantities - once it recognizes the sexual pattern.

The same thing happens when the brain is stimulated by viewing fearful images. Fear can be interpreted by the brain with much of the same chemical process as sex does and will give the viewer that 'shot' of adrenaline that is so addictive. Hence, the 'hidden' images of demon-like faces and such that you can find in WT images.

I think the bottom line in subliminal imaging is stimulation - either sexual or fearful - and it is that stimulation that 'hooks' the viewer into the primary message of the image.

Thanks, cofty, for what you have said. It is reassuring to receive a measure of understanding for what OrphanCrow and I have maintained all along.

Derek Barefoot, whose book THE HOUR OF DARKNESS I own, covers most of the bases on this subject. I was unable to locate online information that was once available. Maybe I need to dig deeper. The above link will give you information re: those who knew DB.

    Best.

As someone mentioned previously, hands can be quite difficult to draw. So, it seems in this case that the Watchtower artist took a lesson from How To Draw Hands in Three Easy Steps
