The best advice I ever got was always given by worldly people, and sadly, ignored for most of my life because it was at odds with my JW brainwashing: go to university, focus on your career first, go out with that nice girl, buy a house.

Unless you have concrete evidence to the contrary, always assume things are going your way.
For instance if you walk into a room and you see two women suddenly start whispering and looking disapproving, unless you have proof, just assume they are saying to eachother.
" I heard he's already married"...
"Oh...darn...too bad, the good ones are always already taken".
